Poetry on Occasion was written for the purpose of thanking God for blessings given, encouraging others through dark and difficult days, expressing Spiritual meditation gleaned from Scripture, the Christian Life, and the wonders of Gods creation.

Taken from all phases of life, the poetry is inspirational, devotional, and easy to read and enjoy.

Mavis was born in rural Des Moines, Iowa, graduated from Trinity Bible College in Chicago and married Doug Pigford, a native of North Carolina where they now make their home. Writing poetry has been a means of self-expression and a means of sharing with others in times of job, illness, celebration, discouragement and meditation. Mavis and her husband Doug have four adult children and seven grandchildren who have been a joy and an inspiration for many of the poems. Mavis was an Elementary School Teacher until her retirement. She remains active in the Warsaw Presbyterian Church and community activities.
