Стр. 297 - The Security Council may decide what measures not involving the use of armed force are to be employed to give effect to its decisions, and it may call upon the Members of the United Nations to apply such measures. These may include complete or partial interruption of economic relations and or rail, sea, air, postal, telegraphic, radio, and other means of communication, and the severance of diplomatic relations.
Стр. 21 - It follows from the above-mentioned requirements that the threat or use of nuclear weapons would generally be contrary to the rules of international law applicable in armed conflict, and in particular the principles and rules of humanitarian law.
Стр. 96 - War alone brings up to its highest tension all human energy, and puts the stamp of nobility upon the peoples who have the courage to meet it.
Стр. 89 - What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.
Стр. 297 - The Members of the League undertake to respect and preserve as against external aggression the territorial integrity and existing political independence of all Members of the League.
Стр. 297 - Article 43 1 All members of the United Nations, in order to contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security, undertake to make available to the Security Council, on its call and in accordance with a special agreement or agreements, armed forces, assistance and facilities, including rights of passage, necessary for the purpose of maintaining international peace and security.
Стр. 205 - That since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed...
Стр. viii - To define force — it is that x that turns anybody who is subjected to it into a thing. Exercised to the limit, it turns man into a thing in the most literal sense: it makes a corpse out of him.
Стр. 60 - How we act is shaped by how we have been conditioned and socialized. There is nothing in our neurophysiology that compels us to react violently. IT IS SCIENTIFICALLY INCORRECT to say that war is caused by 'instinct
