The Phantom of the Opera

Absolutely nothing like any of the movies (except for Lon Chaney, of course), and I love that about this book. It's so intriguing and disgusting at the same time. The differences between the book and the movies are drastic and distinct that when you read this, it's almost like a completely different story than one is normally accustomed to.
This book has a deeper meaning than the movies let on (as any other book), but because of the time period it was written in, it's much different than what we're accustomed to.
So which will you choose: the scorpion or the grasshopper?
