MANCHESTER : JOHN HEYWOOD, 141 AND 143, DEANSGATE.
N introducing this volume to the notice of the public,
it will be well to indicate the uses for which it is especially fitted :
1. In every household where there are children, a supply of interesting books of a sound moral
tendency should be provided. The mind of a child is like a plot of ground: unless good seed is sown in it rank weeds will grow there, and its strength will be wasted for nought. The Young Scholar is a book especially fitted for the children's library in every home.
2. Once a year, in the majority of schools throughout the kingdom, it is the custom to give prizes to scholars who have been diligent, and regular in their attendance.
The yearly volume of the Young Scholar is a work especially fitted for distribution at these annual gatherings. Teachers and managers have often a difficulty in finding books of a suitable nature to give the children. The Young Scholar, having been prepared especially for the literary wants of young people, is excellently adapted for this purpose.
3. In connection with most Sunday-schools is a library, from which the scholars may borrow books. Too often these libraries are crowded with books utterly beyond the comprehension of children. The Young Scholar is a work that should be introduced into every library of this kind; it is just the kind of book that will interest children, and at the same time tend to influence their minds in a healthy and moral direction.
