MEDICINE.

1. A man is admitted into hospital suffering from symptoms of commencing aphasia and hemiplegia. There is a history of a blow on the head received some weeks previously, producing unconsciousness lasting only a few minutes and followed by no marked symptoms of mischief till a few days before admission. Which would be the side paralyzed, and what would be your diagnosis and prognosis in such a case? What would be the probable course and termination of such a case? Describe fully all the symptoms.

2. Diagnose between tubercular consolidation, pneumonia, and bronchitis of the upper lobe of the right lung, describing fully the local physical signs and general symptoms in each case. your treatment in each case. Give

Describe a case of acute dysentery, mentioning the most usual complication in such cases, detailing the unfavourable symptoms in a fatal case and the usual sequelæ after recovery in non-fatal cases. Give also your treatment of the different stages, and indicate what you would do in a severe case in which ipecacuanha always produced vomiting.

4. Diagnose between aczema, psoriasis and tinea tonsurans (ringworm), and give your treatment of each disease.

1. What are the characters of a syphilitic (infecting) sore: when do secondary symptoms usually occur, and where do they generally make their first appearance? What is the prognosis, and how would you treat the primary and secondary disease?

2. Describe the symptoms of disease of the hip (morbus coxarious) Discuss the treatment of each stage of the disease.

3. To what diseases is the testicle liable, and what is their treatment?

4. Describe Wood's operation for the radical cure of inguinal hernia.

5. What are the chief forms of purulent ophthalmia and their treatment?

6. Describe the operation of iridectomy for the relief of tension and for artificial pupil.

MIDWIFERY.

1. Enumerate the various signs of pregnancy, and describe the steps you would take to diagnose between pregnancy and ovarious tumour in the case of a pluriparous woman of 35 years of age.

2. What do you know about the two kinds of hæmorrhage before delivery, respectively termed Unavoidable and Accidental? Give a brief outline of treatment in each case.

3. What are the usual causes and symptoms of inversion of the uterus after labour, and what would be your treatment of such a case?

4. What are the usual causes of obstruction during labour by the material soft parts?

5. Describe a natural labour.

HYGIENE.

1. Detail the measures needed to prevent the spread of a contagious disease, and in using disinfectants; show how you would apply them, and explain their mode of action.

2 Trace out the causes of contamination of air, soil, and water in and around village houses, and point out the most practicable remedies.

3. Arrange the sanitary requirements of a large fair or gathering of pilgrims in the plains of Bengal.

PATHOLOGY.

1. Describe the general and miscroscopic characters of(a) Fatty, (b) Amyloid, (c) Cirrhotic, and (d) Nutmeg liver. 2. Carefully describe and differentiate the following ulcerations of the bowels: (a) Tubercular, (b) Typhoid, (c) Dysenteric, (d) Scorbutic.

3. Give the nature of the morbid changes which frequently follow malarial fevers in spleen, liver and brain.

SURGERY.

1. What are the symptoms of stone in the bladder: compare lithotomy and lithotrity under the following conditions:

(a) childhood: (b) stricture of the urethra (c) extensive venal disease (d) when there is more than one stone: (e) in the female. Describe lateral lithotomy.

2. What forms of cancer are met with in bone? What are the principal considerations which would influence your diagnosis between cancerous and innocent or semi-innocent tumours of bone! 3. What is pyæmia? Is there any difference between pyæmia and septicamia? What is the difference in the temperature in traumatic and hectic fever and pyæmia? What does the essence of pyæmia consist in pathologically, and what are the secondary deposits due to?

4. To what diseases is the breast liable? Discuss them as regards diagnosis and treatment.

5. What is aneurism, its commonest form, and the arteries most liable to it? What are the signs of the disease and its mode of termination if left alone? Discuss the various plans of treatment proposed with reference say to an aneurism of the popliteal artery.

6. How may fractures of bone take place, and how is the process of reunion accomplished? What is the length of time usually required for the process?

7. What is necrosis? Which bones are liable to it? What are its causes, and how do the circumstances which attend the exfoliation of bone and its reproduction vary? What is the source from which the new bone thrown out in cases of necrosis proceed?
