1. Holy Ghost! with light divine,

Shine upon this heart of mine;
Chase the shades of night away,

darkness into day.
2. Holy Ghost! with power divine,

Cleanse this guilty heart of mine;
Long hath sin without control,

Held dominion o'er my soul.
3. Holy Ghost! with joy divine,

Cheer this saddened heart of mine,
Bid my many woes depart,

Heal my wounded, bleeding heart.
4. Holy Spirit ! all divine,

Dwell within this heart of mine;
Cast down every idol-throne,
Reign supreme--and reign alone.

1. CHRISTIAN brethren, ere we part,

Every voice and every heart
Join, and to our Father raise

One last hymn of grateful praise.

Yet there is a brighter shore;
There, released from toil and pain,
There we all may meet again.

1. PEOPLE of the living God,

I have sought the world around,
Paths of sin and sorrow trod,

Peace and comfort nowhere found; 2. Now to you my spirit turns,

Turns-a fugitive unblest;
Brethren! where your altar burns,

O receive me into rest.

3. Lonely, I no longer roam,

Like the cloud, the wind, the wave-

dwell shall be my home,
Where you die shall be my grave;
4. Mine the God whom you adore,

Your Redeemer shall be mine;
Earth can fill my soul no more,

Every idol I resign.

Where Jesus and the sufferer meet.

Soothed thy cheek, and chafed thy brow,
Whispering, as He raised thy head-

“It is I, be not afraid.”

Hear from heaven, Thy dwelling-place;
Hear, in mercy, and forgive,

Bid Thy child believe and live.

1. HEARKEN, Lord, to my complaints,

For my soul within me faints;
Thee, far off, I call to mind,
In the land I left behind,
Where the streams of Jordan flow,
Where the heights of Hermon glow.

2. Tempest-toss'd, my failing bark

Founders on the ocean dark;
Deep to deep around me calls,
With the rush of waterfalls,
While I plunge to lower caves,

Overwhelmed by all Thy waves.

Brought Thy mercy to my sight,
And my wakeful song was heard
Later than the evening bird ;
Hast Thou all my prayers forgot?

Dost Thou scorn, or. hear them not?

Why with faithless troubles vex'd ?
Hope in God, whose saving name

When His countenance shall shine
Through the clouds that darken thine.

1. QUIET, Lord, my froward heart,

Make me teachable and mild,
Upright, simple, free from art,

Make me as a weaned child;
From distrust and envy free,

Pleased with all that pleases Thee.
2. What Thou shalt to-day provide,

Let me as a child receive;
What to-morrow may betide,

Calmly to Thy wisdom leave;
'T is enough that Thou wilt care-

Why should I the burden bear?
3. As a little child relies

On a care beyond his own;
Knows he's neither strong nor wise,

Fears to stir a step alone;
Let me thus with Thee abide,
As my Father, Guard, and Guide.

At the touch of natural grief,
When our earthly, loved ones sink,

Lend us, Lord, Thy sure relief;
Patient hearts, their pain to see,
And Thy grace, to follow Thee.

Rise, my spirit, and adore !

End of our enlarged desires,
Stamp Thine image on our heart,

Fill us now with heavenly fires;

Seal our souls forever Thine.
