3. Thy choice and mine shall be the same,
Inspirer of that holy flame,

649.

Which must forever blaze!

To take the cross and follow Thee,
Where love and duty lead, shall be
My portion and my praise.

Doxology. C. P. M.

To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
Be praise amid the heavenly host,
And in the church below;

MADAME GUION.

From whom all creatures draw their breath,
By whom redemption blessed the earth,
From whom all comforts flow.

8s & 7s.

1. "MERCY, O Thou Son of David !"

Thus the blind Bartimeus prayed! "Others by Thy word are savéd,

Now to me afford Thine aid!"

2. Many for his crying chid him,
But he called the louder still;
Till the gracious Saviour bid him
"Come, and ask Me what you will."
3. Money was not what he wanted,

Though by begging used to live;
But he asked, and Jesus granted
Alms which none but he could give.
4. "Lord, remove this grievous blindness,
Let my eyes behold the day!"
Straight he saw, and, won by kindness,
Followed Jesus in the way.

5. Oh! methinks I hear him praising,
Publishing to all around:

"Friends, is not my case amazing?
What a Saviour I have found!

650.

651.

6. "Oh! that all the blind but knew Him,
And would be advised by me!
Surely they would hasten to Him,
He would cause them all to see.'

8s & 7s.

1. COME, thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
2. Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above:
Praise the mount-I'm fixed upon
Mount of God's unchanging love.

3. Here I raise my Ebenezer ;

Hither by Thine help I'm come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

4. Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to save my soul from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.

5. Oh! to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be!
Let that grace now, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.

6. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it—
Prone to leave the God I love-
Here's my heart-O take and seal it;
Seal it from Thy courts above.

ROBINSON.

8s & 7s.

1. GOD is love; His mercy brightens
All the path in which we rove;
Bliss He wakes, and woe He lightens;
God is wisdom, God is love.

2. Chance and change are busy ever;
Man decays, and ages move;
But His mercy waneth never;
God is wisdom, God is love.

3. E'en the hour that darkest seemeth,
Will His changeless goodness prove;
From the gloom His brightness streameth;
God is wisdom, God is love.

4. He with earthly cares entwineth
Hope and comfort from above:
Every where His glory shineth;
God is wisdom, God is love.

1. My gracious Redeemer I love,

His praises aloud I'll proclaim:
And join with the armies above,
To shout His adorable name.

2. To gaze on His glories divine
Shall be my eternal employ;
To see them incessantly shine,
My boundless, ineffable joy.

3. He freely redeemed, with His blood,
My soul from the confines of hell,
To live on the smiles of my God,
And in His sweet presence to dwell.

4. To shine with the angels in light,
With saints and with seraphs to sing,
To view, with eternal delight,

My Jesus, my Saviour, my King.

5. Ye palaces, scepters, and crowns,
Your pride with disdain I survey;
Your pomps are but shadows and sounds,
And pass in a moment away.

6. The crown that my Saviour bestows, Yon permanent suu shall outshine; My joy everlastingly flows

653.

My God, my Redeemer is mine. FRANCIS.

8s.

1. INSPIRER and hearer of prayer,

Thou Shepherd and Guardian of Thine,

My all to Thy covenant care

I sleeping or waking resign.

2. If Thou art my shield and my sun,
The night is no darkness to me;
And, fast as my moments roll on,
They bring me but nearer to Thee.

3. Thy ministering spirits descend

To watch while Thy saints are asleep;
By day and by night they attend,
The heirs of salvation to keep.

4. Bright seraphs, dispatched from the throne,
Repair to their stations assigned;
And angels elect are sent down
To guard the elect of mankind.

5. Their worship no interval knows;
Their fervor is still on the wing;
And, while they protect my repose,
They chant to the praise of my King.

6. I, too, at the season ordained,

654.

Their chorus forever shall join,
And love and adore, without end,
Their faithful Creator and mine.

8s.

1. THE winter is over and gone,

TOPLADY.

The thrush whistles sweet on the spray,
The turtle breathes forth her soft moan,
The lark mounts and warbles away.

2. Shall every creature around

Their voices in concert unite,
And I, the most favored, be found

In praising to take less delight?
3. Awake, then, my harp, and my lute!
Sweet organs your notes softly swell!
No longer my lips shall be mute,
The Saviour's high praises to tell.
4. His love in my heart shed abroad,
My graces shall bloom as the spring;
This temple, His spirit's abode;
My joy as my duty to sing.

[blocks in formation]

1. Now begin the heavenly theme,
Sing aloud in Jesus' name!
Ye, who His salvation
prove,
Triumph in redeeming love.

2. Ye who see the Father's grace
Beaming in the Saviour's face,
As to Canaan on you move,
Praise and bless redeeming love.

3. Mourning souls dry up your tears;
Banish all your guilty fears;

See your guilt and curse remove,
Cancelled by redeeming love.

4. Hither, then, your tribute bring,
Strike aloud each joyful string;
Saints below, and saints above,
Join to praise redeeming love.

1. As down in the sunless retreats of the ocean,
Sweet flowers are springing no mortal can see,
So, deep in my heart, the still prayer of devotion,
Unheard by the world, rises silent to Thee,
My God! silent to Thee-
Pure, warm, silent to Thee.
