4. Glory to Thee, O God most high!
Father, we praise Thy majesty :
Thou Father of eternity!
Are heaven and earth replenished. 2. To Thee all angels loudly cry,
The heavens, and all the powers on high,
The prophets' fellowship praise Thee. 3. The noble and victorious host
Of martyrs make of Thee their boast;
Throughout the earth exalts Thy praise. 4. From day to day, O Lord, do we
Highly exalt and honor Thee:
The Jewish builders did refuse ?
In spite of envy and the Jews,
The joy and wonder of our eyes;
The day that saw our Saviour rise.
Hosanna, let His name be blest;
L. M. 1. 'T is not the skill of human art,
Which gives me power my God to know; The sacred lessons of the heart
Come not from instruments below. 2. Love is my teacher; He can tell
The wonders that He learnt above:
'T is Love alone can tell of Love. 3. Love is my Master; when it breaks
The morning light, with rising ray,
And Love instructs it all the day. 4. And when the gleams of day retire,
And midnight spreads its dark control,
Their holy lessons in the soul.
Awake, my soul! awake, my tongue !
And all His boundless love proclaim ! 2. See where it shines in Jesus' face,
The brightest image of His grace;
Has all His mightiest works outdone.
Proclaim the wise and powerful God;
Sparkle in every rolling star.
The noblest labor of Thine hands;
5. Grace ! 't is a sweet, a charming theme;
My thoughts rejoice at Jesus' name!
Ye heavens, reflect it to the ground !
I live to reach the place
1. Of all the joy's we mortals know,
Jesus, Thy love exceeds the rest ;
And nearest image of the blest. 2. While I am held in Thine embrace,
There's not a thought attempts to rove;
Fixes, and charms, and fires my love. . 3. While of Thy absence we complain,
And long, and weep, in all we do,
And tears have their own sweetness too. 4. If He withdraws a moment's space,
He leaves a sacred pledge behind;
Or ask the watchman of the night
very name creates delight. 6. Jesus, my God, but rather come!
Our eyes would dwell upon Thy face; 'Tis best to see our Lord at home,
And feel the presence of His grace.
1. From all that dwells below the skies,
Let the Creator's praise arise ;
Through every land, by every tongue. 2. Eternal are Thy mercies, Lord;
Eternal truth attends Thy word;
To Thee, O Lord our God, the Lamb,
Are far inferior to Thy name ? 2. Worthy is He that once was slain,
The Prince of Life, who groaned and died,
At His almighty Father's side. 3. Honor immortal must be paid,
Instead of scandal and of scorn;
And a bright crown without a thorn. 4. Blessings forever on the Lamb,
Who bore the curse for wretched men;
And every creature say, Amen.
Does his successive journeys run;
Till moons shall wax and wane no more. 2. For Him shall endless prayer
3. People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song ;
Their early blessings on His name.
The prisoner leaps to lose His chains;
And all the sons of want are blest. 5. Let every creature rise, and bring
Peculiar honors to their King:
1. He lives, the great Redeemer lives,
What joy the blest assurance gives :
2. Repeated crimes awake our fears,
And Justice armed with frowns appears;
Sweet mercy smiles, and all is peace.
Above our fears, above our faults,
And guilt recedes, and terror dies. 4. In every dark, distressful hour,
When sin and Satan join their power,
That Jesus bears us on His heart. 5. Great Advocate, almighty Friend !
On Him our humble hopes depend;
