Assembly.—Lord God, may this child know thy Beloved Son Jesus Christ as the Saviour of sinners.
Minister.—0 God of Love, grant unto this child, that he may know thy Holy Spirit, who is the Source of Light, of Instruction, of Regeneration, of Sanctification, and of Peace, and comfort, and Joy.

Minister.--Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, we again raise our voices to thee on behalf of this child, and we pray that all this knowledge of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, may be given unto him, and become apparent in him, in his early days and years. Even now, O Lord, whilst we baptize him with water, do thou baptize him with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. from off thine altar, and may he from a child, and from this hour, be sealed for thine own, and for ever.
Assembly.--O Lord, seal this child now, and for ever, for thine own.
Minister.-And now, O Lord our God, we turn our eyes to the Parents of this child, and we offer up our earnest prayers on their behalf. Lord God, have mercy upon them, we beseech thee, and enable them
duly to consider the great responsibility that lies upon them in regard to this child. May they clearly see how much, as a means, the welfare in this life, and the eternal state of this child, is placed in their hands.
Assembly.-0 Lord, make these Parents to see how much, as a means, the state of their child is placed in their hands.
Minister.-0 Lord God, give to these Parents thy Holy Spirit, to enable them to bring up their child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and to make earnest and unceasing supplication on its behalf. may they teach it to hallow thy Great and Adorable Name; may they teach it thy most holy law and commandments; may they teach it the nature and the condemnation of sin; may they teach it the atonement made by our Blessed Redeemer for sinners; may they teach it to rely on this atonement, and to live devoted unto Jesus Christ our Lord; may they teach it the influences of the Holy Spirit, and how thou hast promised to give thy Spirit to those who ask.
Assembly.-O Lord, enable these Parents to teach their child, the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

BAPTISM OF ADULTS.
Minister.—Let us sing to the praise and the glory of God “Ere Christ &c." (pronouncing the two first lines of the following hymn :-or, referring to some other, and pronouncing the two first lines of it.]
1. Ere Christ ascended to his throne,
He issued forth this great command-
2. To men declare their sinful state,
The methods of my grace explain,
3. Dear Saviour we thy will obey,
Not of constraint, but with delight,
4. Descend again celestial Dove,
On these dear followers of the Lord,
5. Let faith, assisted now by signs,
The mysteries of thy love explore;
[The Assembly sit.]
Minister.---Let us now read a selection of Passages from the Word of God bearing upon this Ordinance.
In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan, and were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins : And he said unto them, Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance.—[Matthew, 3: 1, 2, 5, 6, 8.]
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus, answering said unto him, suffer it to be so now, for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water : and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.—[Matthew, 3: 13-17.]
But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the Kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized both men and women.-[Acts, 8: 12.]
Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same Scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: And the Eunuch said, See here is water, what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still : and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the Eunuch, and he baptized him. [Acts, 8: 35-38.]
While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them who heard the word. And they of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as
