Chrift, and the Infpiration of the Holy Spirit, (which is the breathing Wind) hath the Nature of Sin, and are not acceptable to God." Then you fhall also know that the Holy Ghost must fanctify you and all the elect People of God, before they can be faved; as mentioned in the Church Catechifm). You fhall alfo know what Job tafted or felt in his Soul, when by Virtue of those Winds he could fay, I know my Redeemer liveth, Job xix. 25. If Christ was in you, the Hope of Glory, Col. i. 27. then you would understand the Language of the Apostle when he faid, I know in whom I have believed, 2 Tim. i. 12. You would know alfo what the Apostle John says, We know that we are of God, and the whole World (of flain and dead Souls, never breathed upon, not revived by the Spirit of Grace) lieth in Wickedness, 1 John v. 19. Then he who is the Husband of his Church, even Chrift Jefus, would be often calling after you, faying Rije up, my Love, my fair one, and come away. For lo! the Winter is past, the Time of the Singing of Birds is come, and the Voice of the Turtle is beard in our Land, The Vines with the tender Grape give a delightful Smell, Cant. ii. 10, 11, 12, 13. Unbelier and Doubting would be over: Peace and Joy in believing would abound: the charming Turtle, the Spirit of Chrift, by the Gospel of free Salvation, would charm your Souls: Chrift and you would be one, as Husband and Wife are one; therefore he fays, not the Land, but our Land, Cant. ii. 12. Moreover he would be your Vine, and you should be his Branches: in your Hearts would hang the Grapes (viz.) Chrift's Graces, "the Fruits of his Spirit, Love, Joy, Peace, Long-fuffering, Gentleness, Goodnefs, Faith, Meeknefs, and Temperance; against fuch there is no Law," Gal. v. 22, 23. The Devil cannot reach thofe to accuse them before

before God, and therefore he endeavours to depreciate their Worth, by calling their Good, Evil. He despises them in God's People, and calls them four; and indeed they are far from being palatable to the natural Man, who thinks it prepofterous and abfurd to become a Fool to the World, that he may be wife and win Chrift. For those Graces which are the Principle of " the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jefus, do make us tree from the Law of Sin and Death," Rom. viii. 2. Being thus renewed, you would cry Day and Night like God's Elect for compleat Deliverance, Luke xviii. 7. and reiterate the Language of the Spouse, "Awake, O North-wind, and come thou South-wind, blow upon my Garden, that the Spices thereof may flow out." Nothing would content you unless your Husband be prefent! He must come into your Souls, and fup with you, and entertain you with his own pleasant Fruits; I fay His, for they are the Produce of his Garden, Cant. iv. 16. And having experienced the falutary Effects of those breathing Winds, you will be calling after them as long as you live; and at Death you'll prove them to be the fiery Chariot of God's Love that fhall carry you to Glory, 2 Kings ii. 11. Chrift your Husband

having loved you once, he will love you to the End, John xiii. 1. And this fhall be your Comfort, "Before you call, he will anfwer, and while you are yet fpeaking, he will hear," Ifa. lxv. 24. As it is obfervable in this Place, for the Spouse having called in the Clofe of Chap. IV. Chrift anfwers her in the Beginning of Chap. V. "I am come into my Garden thy Soul) my Sifter, my Spouse; I have gathered my Myrrh with my Spice, I have eaten my Honeycomb with my Honey, I have drunk my Wine with my Milk eat, O Friends, drink, yea drink abundantly, O Beloved,"

Cant. v. 1. In like Manner the Prophet invites to
fuck the Breaft of Gospel Confolation, preached first
at Jerufalem, and "with Joy to draw the Water
out of (Chrift) the Well of Salvation," Ifa. xii. 3.
And again, "Come buy Wine and Milk, without
Money, and without Price," Ifa. lv. 1. Here he'll
feed your hungry Souls with good Things, when
the Self-righteous, who think themfelves rich, and
attempt to bring their own Goodnefs in Exchange
for heavenly Commodities, fhall be fent empty away,
Luke i. 53. Here, viz. in his Banqueting Houfe,
in fpiritual Communion, you may drink 'till you
are fick of Love! If fo, then will you intreat your
heavenly Husband to ftay you with Flaggons, and
comfort you with apples, being fick of Love:
who prefently will put his left Hand under your
Head, and his right Hand to embrace you, Cant.
ii. 4, 5, 6. with Promifes of temporal and fpiritual
Mercies to fuftain you, Deut. xxxiii. 25.
you will know King David's Experience, when he
faid, My cup doth overflow," Pfal. xxiii. 5.
Thele were the joyful Winds which breathed on
him when he danced before the Ark, 2 Sam. vi. 14.
Perhaps you will fay, "Thofe Qualifications for
Heaven are not to be attained in thefe Days; and
that which the Religious, thofe called Methodists,
or others, pretend to, is only Enthufiafm." Oh!
my Friends, take Care, for this is Satan's Sug-
geition to deceive your precious Souls; and "he
doth deceive with all Unrighteoufnefs them that
perifh, because they believe not in Chrift, because
they receive not the Love of the Truth, that they
might be faved. For this Caufe God fends them
ftrong Delufions, that they fhould believe a Lie:
that they all might be damned, who believe not
the Truth, but have Pleafure in Unrighteoufnefs.
But Believers (of whatever Denomination, though

ftigmatized with the Name of Methodists) are bound to give Thanks unto God, because he hath from the Beginning chofen us to Salvation, thro' Sanctification of the Spirit, and Belief of the Truth,” 2 Thef. ii. 10, 11, 12, 13. And unless this be your State, and fuch be your Experience, you are yet Bond-flaves to Satan, led captive fome Way or other by your finful Lufts: fpiritually dead, whilft bodily alive; and therefore in the fame Predicament with those whom our Saviour refers to when he faid, Let the Dead bury their Dead, Mat. viii. 22. And in a Condition fimilar to the Blind that cannot fee far off, 2 Peter i. 9. Can a Child in the Womb fee the Light of the World? No, he cannot ; neither can you see the Light of the Kingdom of Grace whilft you are unregenerate, and fhut up in Unbelief. You are Strangers to the Character of the Meek whom God guides in Judgment, Pfal. xxv. 9. You know not the Benefit of being "delivered from the Power of Darkness, and tranflated into the Kingdom of God's dear Son." The Subjects of his Kingdom enjoy his marvellous Light, and "have Redemption through his Blood, even the Forgivenefs of Sins," Col. i. 13, 14. But you are among the Number of thofe who are unconcerned about their Souls' Health, and at Ease in Zion, against whom there is a heavy Woe pronounced, Amos vi. 1. You are dead in the Valley of dry Bones, and confequently infenfible of your Condition, Ezek. xxxvii. 1. Did ever Chrift by his Spirit convince your Souls" of Sin, and of Righteoufnefs, and of Judgment," John xvi. 8. Of Sin, because you did not believe on him: a Work, nevertheless, which none can do 'till they have received Power from God, to burft the Bonds of Unbelief, and escape from the Dominion of Sin. The Saviour's Name is JESUS, because he faves his

People

People from their Sins! from, not in their Sins. Did ever the Word of God affect your Souls with fuch Power that you acknowledged it was "fharper than any two edged Sword, dividing afunder of Soul and Spirit, and of the Joints and Marrow ?" Heb. iv. 12. That you cry'd out like the trembling Jailer, Oh Sirs! what must I do to be faved? A&. xvi. 29, 30. Or like the Publican, Lord be merciful to me a Sinner! not daring to lift up your guilty Eyes to Heaven, Luke xviii. 13. but ready, if poffible, to run away from God, like Adam, and to hide yourselves from his holy Prefence, Gen. iii. 8. Did you ever perceive your fpiritual Nakednefs and Shame by Reason of your eating the forbidden Fruit, having done that which you ought not to have done? Perhaps you'll fay you are not guilty: What, not guilty of any known Sin which tafted fweet to your corrupt Nature in all your Life? Yes, a few Sins, I fuppofe, you'll own: If fo, did ever the Spirit of Chrift convince you of those few Sins, and that the Wages thereof is death and especially of the worst Sin perhaps never thought of) vix. the damning Sin of Unbelief, for there is no Salvation out of Christ? "Go ye into all the World (fays Chrift himself) and preach the Gofpel to every Creature: He that believeth and is baptized (with the Holy Ghoft) fhall be faved; but he that believeth not, shall be damned," Mark xvi. 16, 17.

Now, to believe is no lefs than to receive Forgiveness of Sins, by Faith, through the Merits of the Blood and Righteousness of the Lamb: And "being thus juftified by Faith, we have Peace with God," Rom. v. 1. Thus the Spirit of Chrift doth and will, as a Prophet reprove, and convince every Soul that fhall be faved of the Sin of Unbelief and oblige them to acknowledge "our Hope
