PREFACE.

THIS selection of hymns is sent forth in the earnest hope that it will prove acceptable to Sunday schools, and be useful, under the Lord's blessing, to the young generally. The hymns are, it is believed, in accordance with the truths of the Word of God. Some of them breathe the language of grace and spiritual desire; and it is hoped that these will find a place in the hearts of those in whom the Lord is pleased to implant His fear in their early days.

The thanks of the Compiler are due to those friends who sent original hymns. Thanks are also due to Dr. H. Bonar, for his kind permission to use hymns 120, 403; to the Sunday School Union, for permission to insert hymn 201; and to the Religious Tract Society, for permission to use hymns 44, 252, 258, 329. If any other copyright hymns have been used, it has been unwittingly.

May the Lord crown this effort with rich

success.
