In our young hearts Thy

truth instil, That we may know and do Thy will. 3 May fervent prayer to Thee ascend

For parent, teacher, foe, and friend ;
And when we in Thy house appear,

Help us to worship in Thy fear. 4 When we on earth shall meet no more,

May we above to glory soar;
And praise Thee in more lofty strains,

Where one eternal Sabbath reigns.
349 Prayer
for Blessing.

C. M. 1 Now may the Lord assist us all

To sing the Saviour's praise ;
To join our teachers while they pray,–

Lord, bless the Sabbath days.
2 They seek the Spirit's promised aid

To make the Scriptures plain ;
While in our ears they oft resound,

Ye must be born again.'
3 Hasten the time, Almighty God,

When truth shall set us free;
And those that teach us now shall say,

Behold, these bow the knee !
4 Then shall we pray in humble faith,

Lord, crown their work of love ;
And grant that they and we at last

May meet in heaven above.
5 There shall we meet a numerous host

Of sinners saved by grace,
All washed in blood, and clad in white,

Prepared for that bright place.

350 The First Day.
1 'Twas on this day that God came down,

And said, 'Let there be light !!
The light at His commandment shone,

And drove away the night.
2 'Twas on this day that Jesus rose

Triumphant from the grave ;
His arm had conquered all His foes,

And now He lives to save.
3 'Twas on this day the Holy Ghost

Upon the church was poured, And the disciples saw fulfilled

The promise of their Lord.
4 And on this day we read His Word :

O may a heav'nly ray,
Shed by the Spirit of the Lord,

Show us the Living Way! 351 Christ's Eye is on us. 1 IF Jesus should come to our meeting to-day,

To call out the Christians by name, O how we should listen to what He would say !

How solemn the moments would seem ! 2 He'd know who they were, for He searches

the heart; We could not the Saviour deceive ; O who are the ones that He'd call out apart?

And who are the ones He would leave ? 3 Yet Jesus is here, though His form is unseen ;

His eye is on each of us now ;
He knows who has truly sought pardon forsin

And longs like the Saviour to grow.

P.M.

4 His angels are coming like reapers some day,

To sever the tares from the wheat,
And carry God's children in safety away,
Their loving Redeemer to meet.

CLOSING SCHOOL. 352 Grateful Petitions.

C.M. 1 HEAR, Lord, the song of praise and prayer,

In heaven, Thy dwelling-place,
Of children taught with tender care

The words of truth and grace.
2 Thanks for Thy Word and for Thy day;

And grant us, we implore,
Never to waste in sinful play

Thy holy Sabbaths more.
3 Thanks that we hear ; but O impart

To each desires sincere,
That we may listen with the heart,

And learn as well as hear!
4 Do Thou, O Lord, our spirits take

Under Thy gracious sway,
Who canst the wisest wiser make,

And babes as wise as they.

Closing School.

148th. 1 On what has now been sown,

Thy blessing, Lord, bestow ;*
The power is Thine alone,

To make it spring and grow;
Do Thou the gracious harvest raise,
And Thou alone shalt have the praise.

The Same.

8.7. 1 LORD, dismiss us with Thy blessing ;

Awe us by Thy holy fear ;
We are young, and oft transgressing ;

Save us from each sinful snare.

L.M. 1 OUR Sunday school we close once more ;

Our teachers' toils again are o'er ;
Our thankful tongues their goodness tell,

And thus our song bids them farewell. 2 May we remember every day

What we have heard our teachers say ;
Their memory on our hearts shall dwell,

And now we sing a kind farewell. 3 And may we, morning, noon, and night,

Feel standing in Jehovah's sight;
His piercing eyes in darkness dwell,

And see us now we sing farewell.
4 O may we live to know His power

To save us in a dying hour !
Though now our songs of parting tell,
We hope to meet again-Farewell.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS. 356 Opening a New School. 1 GREAT God, Thy watchful care we bless,

Which gives our feeble plans success ;
Long may we see Thy mighty grace

Promote Thy glory in this place !
2 These walls we to Thy honour raise ;

Long may they echo to Thy praise !

L.M.

And Thou, descending, fill the place

With choicest tokens of Thy grace. 3 Here let the great Redeemer reign

With all the graces of His train ;
While power divine His word attends

To conquer foes, and cheer His friends. 4 And in the great decisive day,

When God the nations shall survey,
May it before the world appear

That crowds were born for glory here ! 357 The New Year.

7's. 1 WHILE with ceaseless course the sun

Hasted through the former year,
Many souls their race have run,

Never more to meet us here. 2 Fixed in an eternal state,

They have done with all below;
We a little longer wait,

But how little, none can know. 3 As the winged arrow flies,

Speedily the mark to find;
As the lightning from the skies

Darts and leaves no trace behind : 4 Swiftly thus our fleeting days

Bear us down life's rapid stream ;
Upwards, Lord, our spirits raise,

All below is but a dream. 358

The New Year. 1 YE lovely tribes, in youthful bloom,

A sweet and smiling joy assume ;
