4 When troubles, like a burning sun,
Beat heavy on their head,
To this almighty Rock they run,
And find a pleasing shade.

5 How glorious He! how happy they
In such a glorious Friend!
His love secures them all the way,
And crowns them at the end.

Jesus a Friend.

C.M.

1 THERE is a Friend whose matchless love Surpasses all beside,

'Tis Jesus Christ, the mighty God, Who for His people died.

2 Yes! Jesus is a Friend indeed,
Whose love is always true;

And, children, if you feel your need,
He is a Friend to you.

3 If there's a praying heart within,
Though words be very few,

If but a tear, you need not fear,
He'll be a Friend to you.

4 And if you once shall taste His love,
That kindness He'll renew,

In every season you shall prove
He'll be a Friend to you.

157

Christ Lord of All.

1 COME, children, join th' angelic throng,

At Jesus' feet to fall:

C. M.

Come, raise with them the cheerful song,
To crown Him Lord of all.

2 His wondrous love did ne'er despise
The gifts of children small,
Who sang hosannas to His praise,
And crowned Him Lord of all.
3 And now He reigns enthroned above,
His grace doth children call,

To seek His face, and taste His love;
O! crown Him Lord of all.

4 Ten thousand angels round His throne,
Before Him prostrate fall;

And numerous children join the song,
To crown Him Lord of all.

The Pearl of Great Price.

C.M.

1 CHRIST'S matchless lustre and His worth
The brightest pearl outshine;
Nature can never set Him forth,
His beauties are divine.

2 A pearl He is, beyond compare
For worth and virtue too;

Thrice happy souls whose zeal and care
This precious pearl pursue!
3 Of brightest gems how small the loss,
This Pearl of price to gain!
Gladly you'd part with all as dross,
Vile, worthless, poor, and vain.

4 O that poor sinners may be brought
This glorious Pearl to seek ;

159

And be by sweet experience taught
Thy praises, Lord, to speak!

Praise to Jesus.

1 THE countless multitude on high, Who tune their songs to Jesus' name, All merit of their own deny,

And Jesus' worth alone proclaim. 2 Firm on the ground of sovereign grace, They stand before Jehovah's throne; The only song in that blest place Is 'Thou art worthy, Thou alone!' 3 With spotless robes of purest white, And branches of triumphal palm, They shout, with transports of delight, Heaven's ceaseless, universal psalm :— 4 'Salvation's glory all be paid

To Him who sits upon the throne,

L.M.

And to the Lamb, whose blood was shed; Thou, Thou art worthy, Thou alone !'

160

'Behold the Lamb!' 8.7 double. 1 LAMB of God, Thou now art seated High upon Thy Father's throne; All Thy gracious work completed, All Thy mighty victory won. Every knee in heaven is bending To the Lamb for sinners slain; Every voice and harp is swelling,

'Worthy is the Lamb to reign!'

2 Lamb of God, Thou soon in glory
Wilt in majesty return;

All Thy foes shall quake before Thee,
All who now despise Thee mourn :
Then Thy saints shall rise to meet Thee,
With Thee in Thy kingdom reign;
Thine the praise, and Thine the glory,
Lamb of God, for sinners slain !

161

The Lamb of God.

1 'BEHOLD the Lamb of God'
Upon this lower earth!

He spread the heavens abroad,
And gave the creatures birth:
Yet He in love came down so low
As to partake of human woe.
2 Behold the Lamb of God!'
How sinless, meek, and pure!
He shed His precious blood,
And made salvation sure:

148th.

How strong, how free His love must be,
To bind Him to the shameful tree!

3 Behold the Lamb of God'

On that tremendous day

When He the winepress trod,

And bore the curse away!
The trembling sinner looks and lives,
And finds how freely God forgives.
4 Behold the Lamb of God'

Ascended from the grave!

162

He sheds His love abroad,

And shows His power to save: Bright crowns on His majestic brow,Behold the mighty Victor now!

His Precious Blood.

1 THERE is a fountain filled with blood,
Drawn from Immanuel's veins ;

And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.

2 The dying thief rejoiced to see

That fountain in his day;
And O may I, though vile as he,
Wash all my sins away!

3 Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
Shall never lose its power,

Till all the ransomed Church of God
Be saved, to sin no more.

163

The Redeemer Praised.

1 BLESSINGS for ever on the Lamb,

Who bore the curse for wretched men !
Let angels sound His sacred name,
And every creature say-Amen!

164
