3 Because, O Lord, thou lovedst us with everlasting love,

And sentest forth thy Son to die that we might live above;

Because, when we were heirs of wrath, thou gavest hopes of heaven;

We love because we much have sinned, and much have been forgiven d.

"DAILY ENDEAVOURING OURSELVES TO FOLLOW THE BLESSED STEPS OF HIS MOST HOLY LIFE."

226. 'Leaving us an example that ye should follow

his steps."-1 PET. ii. 21.

1 LORD, as to thy dear cross we flee,
And plead to be forgiven,

So let thy life our pattern be,

And form our souls for heaven.

2 Help us, through good report and ill,
Our daily cross to bear;
Like thee, to do our Father's will,
Our brethren's griefs to share.

3 Let grace our selfishness expel,
Our earthliness refine,

And kindness in our bosoms dwell,
As free and true as thine.

4 If joy shall at thy bidding fly,
And grief's dark day come on,
We, in our turn, would meekly cry,
Father, thy will be done.

[C.M.

5 Should friends misjudge, or foes defame,
Or brethren faithless prove,
Then, like thine own, be all our aim
To conquer them by love.

6 Kept peaceful in the midst of strife,
Forgiving and forgiven,

O may we lead the pilgrim's life,
And follow thee to heaven o.

"A new heart will I give you, and a new spirit [C.M. will I put within you."--EZEK. Xxxvi. 26.

10 FOR a heart to praise my God,

A heart from sin set free:

A heart that's sprinkled with the blood
So freely shed for me:

2 A heart resign'd, submissive, meek,
My dear Redeemer's throne;
Where only Christ is heard to speak,
Where Jesus reigns alone :

3 A humble, lowly, contrite heart,
Believing, true, and clean;
Which neither life nor death can part
From him that dwells within:

4 A heart in every thought renew'd,
And full of love divine,

Perfect, and right, and pure, and good,
A copy, Lord, of thine.

5 Thy nature, gracious Lord, impart;
Come quickly from above;

Write thy new name upon my heart,
Thy new best name of love.

"I am the way, the truth, and the life."
JOHN xiv. 6.

[C.M.

1 THOU art the way,-to thee alone
From sin and death we flee;

And he, who would the Father seek,
Must seek him, Lord, by thee.

2 Thou art the truth,-thy word alone
True wisdom can impart;

Thou only canst inform the mind,
And purify the heart.

3 Thou art the life,-the rending tomb
Proclaims thy conquering arm;

And those, who put their trust in thee,
Nor death nor hell shall harm.

4 Thou art the way, the truth, the life;
Grant us that way to know,

That truth to keep, that life to win
Whose joys eternal flow ©.

'Changed into the same image from glory to
glory."-2 COR. iii. 18.

1 O SAVIOUR, may we never rest
Till thou art form'd within;

Till thou hast calm'd our troubled breast,
And crush'd the power of sin.

2 O may we gaze upon thy cross,
Until the wondrous sight

Makes earthly treasures seem but dross,
And earthly sorrows light.

3 Until, released from carnal ties,
Our spirit upward springs,

And sees true peace above the skies,
True joy in heavenly things.

[C.M.

4 There, as we gaze, may we become
United, Lord, to thee;

And in a fairer, happier home
Thy perfect beauty see.

"The things which are not seen are
eternal."-2 COR. iv. 18.

1 THE roseate hues of early dawn,
The brightness of the day,
The crimson of the sunset sky,
How fast they fade away:
O for the pearly gates of heaven;
O for the golden floor;

O for the Sun of Righteousness,
That setteth never more!

[DOUBLE C.M.

2 The highest hopes we cherish here,
How fast they tire and faint;
How many a spot defiles the robe
That wraps an earthly saint:
O for a heart that never sins;
O for a soul wash'd white;
O for a voice to praise our King,
Nor weary day or night.

3 Here faith is ours, and heavenly hope,
And grace to lead us higher;
But there are perfectness and peace
Beyond our best desire.

O by thy love and anguish, Lord,
O by thy life laid down,

O that we fall not from thy grace,
Nor cast away our crown a.

"Whom have I in heaven but thee?"

Ps. lxxiii. 25.

[SIX 8s.

1 THOU hidden love of God, whose height,
Whose depth unfathom❜d no man knows:
I see from far thy beauteous light,
Inly I sigh for thy repose:

My heart is pain'd, nor can it be
At rest till it find rest in thee.

2 Is there a thing beneath the sun

That strives with thee my heart to share?
Ah! tear it thence, and reign alone,

The Lord of every motion there.

Then shall my heart from earth be free,
When it hath found repose in theê.

3 O hide this self from me, that I

No more, but Christ in me, may live;
My vile affections crucify,

Nor let one darling lust survive;
In all things nothing may I see,
Nothing desire, or seek, but thee.

4 Each moment draw from earth away
My heart, that lowly waits thy call;
Speak to my inmost soul, and say,
I am thy love, thy God, thy all:
To feel thy power, to hear thy voice,
To taste thy love, be all my choice 1.

And they

"He saith unto them, Follow me.
straightway left their nets and followed
him."-MATT. iv. 19, 20.

1 JESUS calls us, o'er the tumult
Of our life's wild restless sea,
Day by day his sweet voice soundeth,
Saying, "Christian, follow me."
