3 'Twas He, my soul, who sent his Son
To die for crimes which thou hast done!
He owns the ransom, and forgives
The hourly follies of our lives.

4 The vices of the mind he heals,

And cures the pains which nature feels; Redeems the soul from Hell, and saves Our wasting lives from threat'ninggraves! 5 Our strength decay'd, his pow'r repairs; His mercy crowns our growing years; He satisfies our mouths with good, And fills our souls with heav'nly food.

PSALM CV. C. M.

10 render thanks and bless the Lord,
Invoke his sacred name;

Acquaint the nations with his deeds,
His matchless deeds proclaim.

2 Sing to his praise, in lofty hymns
His wond'rous works rehearse;
Make them the theme of your discourse,
The subject of your verse.

3 Rejoice in his Almighty name
Alone to be ador'd;

And let their hearts o'erflow with joy
Who humbly seek the Lord.

4 Seek ye the Lord; his saving strength Devoutly still implore;

And, where he's ever present, seek
His face for evermore.

5 O let the works his hands have wrought Your admiration move;

Think on the judgments of his mouth;
And wonders of his love.

6 His Cov'nant, which he kept in mind
For num'rous ages past;
To num'rous ages yet to come
In equal force shall last.

PSALM CVI. L. M.

10 render thanks to God above,
The fountain of eternal love;
Whose mercy firm through ages past
Has stood, and shall for ever last.

2 Who can his mighty deeds express?
Not only vast, but numberless!
What mortal eloquence can raise
His tribute of immortal praise?

3 Happy are they, and only they,
Who from thy precepts never stray;
Who know what's right-not only so,
But always practise what they know.

4 Extend to me that favor, Lord!
Thou to thy chosen dost afford;
When thou return'st to set them free,
Let thy Salvation visit me!

5 O may I worthy prove to see
Thy saints in full prosperity!
That I the joyful Choir may join,

And count thy people's triumph mine!

PSALM CVII. L. M.

1 Give thanks to God; He reigns above;
Kind are his thoughts-his Name is Love;
His mercy ages past have known,
And ages long to come shall own.

2 Let the Redeemed of the Lord
The wonders of his grace record;
Israel, the people whom he chose,
And rescued from their mighty foes.

3 Like them, when our release we gain
From sin's hard yoke, and Satan's chain,
And have this desert world to pass,
A wearisome, and dang'rous place.

4 He feeds, and clothes us all the way,
He guides our footsteps lest we stray;
He guards us with a pow'rful hand,
And brings us to the heav'nly land.

D

5 O let us all, with joy, record
The truth and goodness of the Lord!
How great his works! how kind his ways!
Let every tongue exalt his praise.

PSALM CVII. Version 2. C. M.

1 How are thy servants blest, O Lord!
How sure is their defence !
Eternal wisdom is their guide,
Their help Omnipotence.

2 In foreign realms, and lands remote,
Supported by thy care,

Thro' burning climes they pass unhurt,
And breathe in tainted air.

3 From all their fears and griefs, O Lord,
Thy mercy sets them free,
When in the confidence of prayer

Their soul takes hold on Thee.

4 The storm is laid-the winds retire
Obedient to thy will;

The sea, which roar'd at thy command,
At thy command is still.

5 In midst of dangers, fears, and death,
Thy goodness I'll adore,

I'll praise thee for thy mercies past,
And humbly hope for more.

6 My life, if thou preserve my life, Thy sacrifice shall be;

And death, if death must be my doom,
Shall join my soul to Thee.

[blocks in formation]

1 O God, my heart is fully bent To magnify thy Name;

My tongue with cheerful songs of praise,
Shall celebrate thy fame.

2 Awake my lute-nor thou, my harp,
Thy choicest notes delay;
While I with early hymns of joy
Prevent the dawning day;

3 Because thy mercy's boundless height
The highest heaven transcends,
And far beyond the distant clouds
Thy faithfulness extends.

4 Be thou, O God, exalted high
Above the starry frame,

And let the world, with one consent
Confess thy glorious name.

PSALM CX.

1 All hail! victorious Lord!
At God's right hand above,
Triumphant o'er thy foes!
Triumphant in thy love!

To Thee our joyful songs we bring,
To Thee we bow, all-conqu'ring King!
