3 O enter then his temple gate;
Thence to his courts devoutly press;
And still your grateful hymns repeat,
And still his name with praises bless.
4 For He's the Lord, supremely good,
His mercy is for ever sure:

His truth which always firmly stood,
To endless ages shall endure.

PSALM 100. (SECOND VERSION.) L. M.

Exhortation to praise God.

1 BEFORE Jehovah's awful throne,
Ye nations bow with sacred joy;
Know that the Lord is God alone,
He can create, and He destroy.

2 His sovereign power, without our aid, Made us of clay, and form'd us men; And when like wandering sheep we strayed,

He brought us to his fold again.

3 We'll crowd thy gates with thankful songs, High as the heavens our voices raise;

And earth with her ten thousand tongues
Shall fill thy courts with sounding praise.

4 Wide as the world is thy command;
Vast as eternity thy love;

Firm as a rock thy truth shall stand,
When rolling years shall cease to move.

PSALM 103. L. M.

The soul excited to praise God for his mercies.

1 My soul! inspired with sacred love,
God's holy name for ever bless;
Of all his favors mindful prove,
And still thy grateful thanks express.
2 'Tis He that all thy sins forgives,
And after sickness makes thee sound;
From danger He thy life retrieves,
By him with grace and mercy crowned.
3 The Lord abounds with tender love,
And unexampled acts of grace :
His wakened wrath does slowly move;
His willing mercy flies apace.

4 Let every creature jointly bless

1

The mighty Lord! and thou my heart!
With grateful joy thy thanks express,
And in this concert bear thy part.

PSALM 103. (SECOND VERSION.) S. M.
Praise for spiritual and temporal mercies.

My soul, repeat his praise,

Whose mercies are so great,
Whose anger is so slow to rise,
So ready to abate.

2 High as the heavens are rais'd
Above the ground we tread,
So far the riches of his grace
Our highest thoughts exceed.

3

His power subdues our sins;
And his forgiving love,

6

Far as the East is from the West,
Doth all our guilt remove.

The pity of the Lord,

To those that fear his name, Is such as tender parents feel: He knows our feeble frame. Our days are as the grass;

Or like the morning flower;

If one sharp blast sweep o'er the field,
It withers in an hour.

But thy compassions, Lord,

To endless years endure:

And children's children ever find

Thy word of promise sure.

PSALM 104. P. M.

A hymn of praise for creation and providence.

1 My soul praise the Lord, speak good

2

of his name,

O Lord, our great God, how dost
Thou appear!

Surpassing in glory, how great is thy fame! Honor and majesty in Thee shine most clear.

With Majesty cloth'd, with honor and might,

O Lord! let our praise thy greatness declare ;

3

4

Whose throne is in heaven, whose robe is

the light,

Who on the wings walkest of winds in the air.

As curtains the heavens Thou spreadest out wide;

Within the great deep thy chambers
retire:

The clouds are thy chariots, on which
Thou dost ride,

Thine angels are spirits; thy ministers fire.

How manifold, Lord! the works Thou hast wrought

In earth, and in heaven thy glory we see; Thy wisdom and riches surpass all our thought;

Such wisdom as only belongeth to Thee.

PSALM 105. C. M.

Exhortation to praise God for his mercy and power. 1 OH! render thanks and bless the Lord, Invoke his sacred name; Acquaint the nations with his deeds, His matchless deeds proclaim.

2 Sing to his praise in lofty hymns,
His wondrous works rehearse;

Make them the theme of your discourse,
The subject of your verse.

3 Rejoice in his Almighty name,
Alone to be adored;

And let their hearts o'erflow with joy,
Who humbly seek the Lord.

4 Seek ye the Lord; his saving strength Devoutly still implore;

And where He's always present, seek
His face for evermore.

PSALM 106. L. M.

Praise to God for his goodness and mercy.

1 OH! render thanks to God above,
The fountain of eternal love,

Whose mercy firm through ages past
Has stood, and stands for ever fast.

2 Who can his mighty deeds express,
Not only vast, but numberless?
What mortal eloquence can raise
His tribute of immortal praise?

3 Blessed are they, and only they,
Who from thy judgments fear to stray;
Who know thy will, nor only so,
But strive to practise what they know.

4 Extend to me that favor, Lord!
Thou to thy chosen dost afford;
When Thou return'st to set them free,
May thy salvation visit me.
