PSALM 60. c. M.

Humiliation during war, or domestic tumults.

1 LORD, hast Thou cast thy servants off?
Must we for ever mourn?
Wilt Thou retain thy righteous wrath?
Shall mercy ne'er return?

2 The terrors of one frown of thine
Melt all our strength away;

Like men who totter, drunk with wine,
We tremble in dismay.

3 Our country shakes beneath thy stroke,
And dreads thy threatening hand;
Oh! heal the kingdom Thou hast broke;
Confirm the wavering land.

4 Lift up a banner in the field,
For those who fear thy name;

Oh! save thy servants with thy shield,
And put our foes to shame.

PSALM 61. s. M.

Faith and hope in God.

1 WHEN, overwhelmed with grief,
My heart within me dies,
Helpless, and far from all relief,
To heaven I lift my eyes.

2 Oh! lead me to the rock

That's high above my head,
And make the covert of thy wings,
My shelter, and my shade.

3 Within thy presence, Lord! For ever I'll abide ;

Thou art the tower of my

The refuge where I hide.

4 O give to me the lot

defence,

Of those that fear thy name; As endless life is their reward, May I possess the same.

PSALM 62. L. M.

Resolution to trust in God alone.

1 My soul for help on God relies,
From him alone my safety flows,
My rock, my health, who strength supplies
To bear the shock of all my foes.

2 God does his saving health dispense,
And flowing blessings daily send;
He is my fortress and defence;
On him my soul shall still depend.

3 In God, ye people, always trust;
Before his throne pour out your hearts;
For God the merciful, the just,
His timely aid to us imparts.

4 Though boundless mercy is the grace
In which he chiefly takes delight,
Yet God will all the human race
According to their works requite.

PSALM 63. L. M.

Lenging after God.

1 O GOD, Thou art my God alone, Early to Thee my soul shall cry, A pilgrim in a land unknown,

A barren land whose springs are dry. 2 Yet through this rough and thorny maze, I still repose on Thee, my God! Thy hand, unseen, upholds my ways, I safely tread, where Thou hast trod. 3 Thee, in the watches of the night, When I remember on my bed, Thy presence makes the darkness light, Thy guardian wings are round my head. 4 Better than life itself thy love, Dearer than all beside to me;

For whom have I in heaven above,
Or what on earth, compared with Thee?

PSALM 65. L. M.

God, the God of the seasons.

1 ETERNAL Source of every joy!
Praise shall our hearts and lips employ,
While in thy temple we appear,

Whose goodness crowns the circling year.
2 The clouds, disposed at thy command,
Their fatness drop through every land:
Her various blessings nature yields,
And plenty smiles o'er all her fields.

| 3 Seasons, and months, and weeks and days
Demand successive songs of praise;
Oh! be the grateful homage paid,
With morning light, and evening shade.

4 Here in thy house let incense rise,
As circling Sabbaths bless our eyes:
'Till to those glorious realms we soar,
Where days and years revolve no more.

PSALM 66. c. M.

Invitation to general praise.

1 LET all the lands with shouts of joy,
To God their voices raise;

Sing psalms in honour of his name,
And spread his glorious praise.

2 Through all the earth, the nations round Shall Thee their God confess;

And with glad hymns their awful dread
Of thy great power express.

3 Come, and behold the works of God,
And you shall fully own,

That God to all the sons of men
Hath wondrous judgments shown.

4 O, all ye people, bless our God,
And loudly speak his praise,
Who holds our souls in life, and still
Confirms our stedfast ways.

PSALM 67. S. M.

For the universal spread of Christ's kingdom.

1 To bless thy chosen race,

In mercy, Lord, incline;
And cause the brightness of thy face
On all thy saints to shine.
2 That so thy wondrous way

May through the world be known;
While distant lands their tribute pay,
And thy salvation own.

3 Let differing nations join

To celebrate thy fame;

And all the world, O Lord, combine
To praise thy glorious name.

4 O let them shout and sing

With joy and pious mirth;

For Thou the righteous Judge and King
Shalt govern all the earth.

Praise ye the Lord; Hallelujah!

PSALM 68. L. M.

Christ's ascension, and gift of the Spirit.

1 LORD! when Thou didst ascend on high,
Ten thousand angels filled the sky:
Those heavenly guards around Thee wait,
Like chariots that attend thy state.

2 Not Sinai's mountain could appear
More glorious, when the Lord was there,
While he pronounced the dreadful law,
And struck the chosen tribes with awe.
