5 We own and bless thy gracious sway, Thy hand all nature hails;

Seed-time, nor harvest, night, nor day,
Summer, nor winter fails.

HYMN 57. P. M.

Praise to the holy Trinity.

1 GLORY be to God on high!
God whose glory fills the sky!
Peace on earth, and man forgiven,
Man the well-beloved of heaven.

2 Sovereign Father! heavenly King!
Thee we now presume to sing;
Glad thine attributes confess,
Infinite wisdom, power, and grace.

3 Hail! by all thy works adored,
Hail! the everlasting Lord!

Thee with thankful hearts we prove
Lord of power, and God of Love.

4 Holy Spirit! Thee we own,
Thee, O Christ! the only Son;
Lamb of God, the victim slain,
Man to save from endless pain.

5 Praise the name of God most high;
Praise him all below the sky;
Praise him all ye heavenly host;
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

HYMN 58. L. M.

For the beginning of the Year.

1 GOD of my life! thy constant care With blessings crowns the opening year; This guilty life Thou dost prolong, And wake anew mine annual song. 2 How many kindred souls are fled To the dark regions of the dead! Since from this day the changing sun Through his last yearly course has run. 3 Yet we survive but who can say Or through this year, or month, or day, I shall retain this vital breath,

Nor yet resign my frame to death? 4 That breath is thine, eternal God! "Tis thine to fix my soul's abode; It holds its life from Thee alone, On earth, or in the world unknown. 5 To Thee our spirits we resign,

Make them, and own them still as thine; So shall they rest secure from fear, Though death should blight the rising year.

HYMN .59 P. M.

For the afternoon of a Sacrament day.

1 GOD of all redeeming grace!
By thy cleansing mercy heal'd,
Up to Thee our souls we raise,
And to Thee our bodies yield.

2 Thou our sacrifice receive, Humbly offered through thy Son : May we ever in Thee live,

May thy will in us be done.

3 Meet it is, and just, and right, That we should be wholly thine; In thy sacred word delight,

In thy blessed service join.

4 O that every deed and word

May proclaim how good Thou art! "Holiness unto the Lord"

Still be written on each heart.

HYMN 60. s. M.

Divine Grace.

1 GRACE! 'tis a charming sound,
Harmonious to the ear:

Heaven with the echo shall resound,
And all the earth shall hear.

2 Grace turn'd my wand'ring feet
To tread the heavenly road;
And new supplies each hour I meet,
While passing on to God.

3 O! let thy Grace inspire

My soul with strength divine!
May all my powers to Thee aspire,
And all my days be thine.

HYMN 61. P. M.

The solemnities of the last judgment.

1 GREAT God! what do I see and hear!
The end of things created!
The Judge of mankind doth appear
On clouds of glory seated.

The trumpet sounds-the graves restore
The dead which they contained before;
Prepare, my soul! to meet him.

2 The dead in Christ shall first arise,
At the last trumpet's sounding,
Caught up to meet him in the skies,
With joy their Lord surrounding:
No gloomy fears their souls dismay;
His presence sheds eternal day

On those prepared to meet him. 3 But sinners filled with guilty fears Behold his wrath prevailing;

For they shall rise, and find their tears
And sighs are unavailing :

The day of grace is past and gone-
Trembling they stand before the throne,
All unprepared to meet him.

4 Great God! what do I see and hear!
The end of things created!
The Judge of mankind doth appear
On clouds of glory seated:
Low at his cross I view the day,

When heaven and earth shall pass away,

And thus prepare to meet him.

HYMN 62. C. M.

The Lord's day, in the Lord's house.

1 GREAT Shepherd of thy people, hear! Thy presence now display;

As Thou hast given a place for prayer,
So give us hearts to pray.

2 Show us some token of thy love,
Our feeble hope to raise ;

And pour thy blessings from above,
That we may render praise.
8 Within these walls let holy peace,
And love and concord dwell;
Here give the troubled conscience ease,
The wounded spirit heal.

4 May we in faith receive thy word,
In faith address our prayers;
And in the presence of the Lord
Unbosom all our cares !

5 And may thy Gospel's joyful sound,
Enforced by grace divine,

Awaken careless sinners round,
And bend their will to thine!

HYMN 63. P. M.

The ascension and intercession of Christ.

1 HAIL the day that saw him rise,
Glorious to his native skies!
Christ awhile to mortals given,
Enters now the highest heaven.
