This companion to 'Reading and Writing Literary Genres' shows how to teach nonfiction to elementary students with an emphasis on the author’s purpose. You’ll learn how to explore with your students what nonfiction writing looks like and the purposes, structures, and literary elements that are inherent in nonfiction genres. Chapters show how to teach a variety of nonfiction texts using teacher modeling and student discussions as primary instructional strategies. All chapters include minilessons, graphic organizers, and student writing samples.
