O blest are they who have not seen, And yet who firm in faith have been ; With CHRIST in glory they shall reign.

Alleluia!

To Him let all, this day of days,
With heart and voice unite to raise
Their loftiest strains of grateful praise.

Or this:

57 THE happy Morn is come!

Alleluia!

Triumphant o'er the grave,
The LORD hath left His tomb,
Omnipotent to save :-

Captivity is captive led :

For JESUS liveth, Who was dead!

Who now accuseth them,

For whom their Surety died?
Who now shall those condemn,
Whom God hath justified?-
Captivity is captive led ;

For JESUS liveth, Who was dead!

CHRIST hath our ransom paid;

His glorious work is done;
On Him our help is laid,

By Him our vict'ry won :

Captivity is captive led;

For JESUS liveth, Who was dead!

Join then His praise to tell,
Whose wondrous Love, this day,
Hath vanquish'd death and hell,

And burst our chains away :-
Captivity is captive led;

For JESUS liveth, Who was dead! Amen.

AFTER THE SERMON.

58JESUS CHRIST is ris'n to-day,-Alleluia !
Our triumphant holiday ;-Alleluia !
Who did once, upon the Cross,-Alleluia!
Suffer to redeem our loss.-Alleluia !

Hymns of praise then let us sing,—Alleluia!
Unto CHRIST Our Heav'nly King,—Alleluia!
Who endur'd theCross and Grave,-Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save.-Alleluia.

But the pains which He endur'd,—Alleluia!
Our salvation hath procur'd ;-Alleluia !
Now above the sky He's King,-Alleluia !
Where the Angels ever sing,-Alleluia !

Monday and Tuesday in Easter Week. The same as on Easter Day.

First Sunday after Easter.

The same as on Easter Day.

Second Sunday after Easter.

AT MORNING PRAYER.

After the Third Collect.

59 MORNING lifts her dewy veil,
With new-born blessings crown'd;
Let us haste her light to hail,
In courts of holy ground.

CHRIST hath shed a fairer morn,
From darkness rising free;
In His glorious light new-born,
Lift we our jubilee.

When, from blank primeval night,
Sprang forth the world so fair,
Putting on her robes of light,

What wondrous Power was there!

When our GOD, Who gave His Son,

His guilty foes to spare,

Woke to life the guiltless One,

G

What wondrous Love was there!

When, from the ETERNAL'S Hand,
The Earth in beauty stood,
Deck'd in light at His command,
He saw and call'd it good.

Yet a goodlier world it stood,
In the CREATOR's sight,

In the LAMB's all-cleansing Blood,
Wash'd to celestial white.

In the light of rising morn,
Which o'er creation flies,
We descry, by fancy borne,
Heaven's courts beyond the skies.

In the FATHER'S Image bright,
In CHRIST, of souls the SUN,
Faith, as in a mirror's light,
Discerns the HOLY ONE.

In Thy law, blest TRINITY,-
A torch-light sure and true,-
What Thou forbiddest may we flee,
What Thou dost bid pursue. Amen.

AT EVENING PRAYER.

After the Third Collect.

60 YE choirs of new Jerusalem,
Your sweetest notes employ,
The Paschal victory to hymn,
In strains of holy joy :-

[ocr errors]

How Judah's Lion burst His chain,
And crush'd the serpent's head

And brought with Him from death's domain,
The long-imprison'd dead.

From hell's devouring jaws the prey
Alone our Leader bore;

His ransom'd hosts pursue their way,
Where He hath gone before.

Triumphant in His glory now,

His sceptre rules o'er all;

Earth, heav'n and hell before Him bow,
And at His footstool fall.

While joyful thus His praise we sing,

His mercy we implore,

Into His palace blest to bring,

And keep us evermore.

Amen.

BEFORE THE HOLY COMMUNION.

Hymn 60, "Ye choirs, &c." (As above.)
