35 LORD, when we bend before Thy Throne,
And our confessions pour;
Teach us to hate the sins we own,
And shun what we deplore.

Our contrite spirits pitying see,
True penitence impart ;

And let a healing ray from Thee,
Beam hope upon each heart.

When we disclose our wants in
May we our wills resign;
And not a wish our bosoms share,
Which is not wholly Thine.

In meek submission to Thy Will,

May ev'ry prayer arise;

And teach us, LORD, 'tis Goodness still,

That grants it, or denies.

These blessings, in Thy Grace, confer,

FATHER, Co-equal SON,

And HOLY GHOST, the Comforter,

Eternal Three in One. Amen,

36 ALL ye who seek a certain cure,

In trouble and distress;

Whatever grief may vex your mind,
Or guilt your soul oppress :-
JESUS, Who gave Himself for you,
Upon the Cross to die,

Opens to you His loving Heart ;-
Then to that Heart draw nigh.

Ye hear how kindly He invites;
Ye hear His Words so blest;
ye who labour, come to Me,
And I will give you rest.”

O CHRIST! Thou Joy of saints on high!
Thou Hope of sinners here!
Encourag'd by those gracious words,
To Thee we now draw near.

Wash Thou our wounds in that dear Blood,
Which from Thy wounds did flow;
New grace, new hope inspire, a new
And better heart bestow.

To GOD the SON, Who gave His Life,
Lost sinners to restore;

TO FATHER, SPIRIT, Three in One,

Be glory evermore,

Or this:

37 SAVIOUR, when in dust to Thee
Low we bend th' adoring knee;
When, repentant, to the skies
Scarce we lift our weeping eyes;
O, by all Thy pains and woe,
Suffer'd once for man below :—
Bending from Thy Throne on high,
Hear our solemn litany!

By Thy birth and early years,
By Thy human griefs and fears;
By Thy fasting and distress,
In the lonely wilderness;
By Thy vict'ry, in the hour
Of the subtle tempter's power:-
JESU, look with pitying eye,
Hear our solemn litany!

By the sympathy that wept,
O'er the grave where Laz'rus slept ;
By Thy bitter tears that flow'd,
Over Salem's lov'd abode;

By the troubled sigh that told,
Treason lurk'd within Thy fold:
JESU, look with pitying eye,
Hear our solemn litany!

By Thine hour of whelming fear,
By Thine agony of prayer,
By the purple robe of scorn,

By Thy wounds, Thy crown of thorn,
By Thy Cross, Thy pangs and cries,
By Thy perfect Sacrifice ;-
JESU, look with pitying eye,
Hear our solemn litany!

By Thy deep expiring groan,
By the seal'd sepulchral stone,
By Thy triumph o'er the grave,
By Thy power from death to save :—
Mighty GoD, ascended LORD,

To Thy Throne in Heav'n restor❜d;
PRINCE and SAVIOUR, hear the cry
Of our solemn litany!

Hymn 5, "Day of Wrath, &c." (See page 5.)

First Sunday in Lent.

The same as on Ash-Wednesday.

Second Sunday in Lent.

After the Third Collect.

Thy mercy we implore,

While we, throughout this sacred Fast,
Our prayers and tears outpour.

Thou, Who our hearts dost know,
And all our frailty see;

O look with pitying eye on us,
Who look for help to Thee.

How countless are our faults,
We own with grief and shame;
Yet spare and heal our sin-sick souls,
For Thy most Gracious Name.

Teach us, by abstinence,
Our body to controul,
And, by subduing rebel thought,
To discipline the soul.

So, Blessed TRINITY,

Vouchsafe us, in Thy Love,
Of all our strife and toils below,

To reap the fruits above. Amen.

In other respects, the same as on Ash-Wednesday.
