Honour, glory, love, and praise,
Be, through never-ending days,
To the FATHER, and the SON,

And the SPIRIT, Three in One. Amen.

BEFORE THE HOLY COMMUNION.

3 "BEHOLD, I come, I come with speed; With Me is My reward 1;

And then of every man the meed

Shall with his work accord."

"Come, then!" from every faithful breast,

The HOLY SPIRIT cries;

And "Come!" in spotless raiment dress'd,
The Church, Thy Bride, replies.

O blest are they, whose bosoms share
The SPIRIT'S gift serene;

Blest, who the bridal garments wear,
That vesture white and clean :-

Blest, who in Thy Communion erst
Have lov'd, O CHRIST, to dwell;
Have freely drunk, and slak'd their thirst,
From Thy enliv'ning well:-

And when, at length, Thy warnings shew
At hand the hour of doom,

Can meekly answer, "Even so,

Yea, come, LORD JESUS, come!" Amen.

BEFORE THE SERMON.

4 Lo! He comes, in clouds descending,
Who for sinners once was slain;
Thousand thousand saints attending,
Swell the triumph of His train:
Alleluia! CHRIST in flesh appears again!
Every eye shall now behold Him
Rob'd in dreadful Majesty ;

Those who set at nought and sold Him,
Pierc'd and nail'd Him to the Tree,
Deeply wailing, shall the true Messiah see.

See! The tokens of His Passion
Still His dazzling Body bears ;-
Cause of endless exultation

To His faithful followers :

With what rapture, gaze they on those glori

ous scars!

Now redemption, long-expected,
See in solemn pomp appear;
All His Saints, by men rejected,
Rise to meet Him in the air.
Alleluia! See the Son of GOD appear!

Yea, Amen! let all adore Thee,
High on Thy eternal Throne;
Saviour, take Thy power and glory,

Claim Thy Kingdom for Thine own.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Amen!

AFTER THE SERMON.

5 DAY of wrath! O day of mourning!
See from Heav'n the LORD returning!
And in flames all Nature burning!

Oh! what fear man's bosom rendeth,
When, for Judgment, He descendeth,
On Whose Sentence all dependeth!

Hark! the Trumpet's echo, sounding,
Through earth's sepulchres rebounding,
Brings the dead, their JUDGE surrounding!
When the JUDGE His Throne attaineth,
And each thought and deed arraigneth,
Nothing unaveng'd remaineth.

Lo! the Book, precisely worded,
Wherein all hath been recorded :-
Thence our doom shall be awarded.

O, what then shall I be pleading?
Who for me be interceding?-
When the just are mercy needing.
KING of Majesty tremendous !-
Who dost now free pardon send us:
Fount of pity! then befriend us.
Think, kind JESU, my salvation
Cost Thy wondrous Incarnation :-
Leave me not to reprobation!

Thou with anxious toil hast sought me,
Thou upon the Cross hast bought me :-
Shall such grace in vain be brought me?

Guilty now I pour my moaning,
All my sin with anguish owning:-
Spare, O GOD, Thy suppliant groaning!

Worthless are my prayers and sighing;
Yet, good LORD, in grace complying,
Save me from the flames undying!

Oh! that day of tears and mourning!-
From the dust of earth returning,
Man for Judgment must prepare him :-
Spare, O GOD, in pity, spare him!

Thou, Who didst our ransom pay,

Grant us rest with Thee, we pray! Amen.

Second Sunday in Advent.

The same as on the First Sunday in Advent.

Third Sunday in Advent.

AT MORNING PRAYER.

After the Third Collect.

6 When CHRIST Our LORD first came on earth,
His messenger before Him went ;-
The greatest born of mortal birth,
And charg'd with words of deep intent.

But ev'n the least, who here attend,
Have honour greater far than he ;
He was the Bridegroom's joyful friend,
His Body and His Spouse are wɔ.

A higher race, the Sons of light,

Of water and the SPIRIT born;
He the last Star of parting night,

But we the children of the morn.

Oh, as he boldly spake Thy word,
And joy'd to hear the Bridegroom's voice,
So may Thy Pastors teach, O LORD,
And so Thy list'ning Church rejoice.

To GOD the FATHER, and the Son,
All honour, praise, and glory be,
With HOLY SPIRIT, Three in One,
Now, and through all eternity. Amen.
