IN countless streams, each passing hour,
His healing Mercy flows;

And all He doth, His wondrous Power,
And Love more wondrous, shews.

O harden'd race, O hearts of stone,
That love the night of sin!
The Light eternal ye disown,
For ye are dark within.

O shed on us Thy Radiance pure,
Thou Day-Spring from on high;
Nor let our sins Thy Light obscure,
In darkness, lest we die.

In Thee, O CHRIST, the Light Divine,
For ever let us boast;

O FATHER, equal praise be Thine,

And Thine, O HOLY GHOST. Amen.

BEFORE THE HOLY COMMUNION. Hymn 26," He dwells, &c." (See page 27.)

BEFORE THE SERMON.

Hymn 21,"Poor Wand'rers, &c."(See page 23.)

AFTER THE SERMON.

Hymn 22, "Light of, &c." (See page 24.)

If there be more than two Sundays after the Epiphany, the same Hymns may be used, throughout, as on the Second Sunday.

Septuagesima.

AT MORNING AND EVENING PRAYER.
After the Third Collect.

27 GREAT GOD-All-Blest-created thing
Could to Thy bliss no increase bring;
Yet, that Thou might'st that bliss impart,
Thou bad'st the world from chaos start.

And, at Thy bidding, straight appears
This earth, with all its kindred spheres;
And all, in wondrous concert, sing

The Love, from Whose decree they spring.

But scarce hath nature's world come forth,
In all the splendour of its birth,
Ere Thou, Creator, dost design
Another world, yet more divine.

"Tis built upon Redeeming Love;
'Tis form'd in graces from above;
Its span extends to every clime;
Its growth shall last throughout all time.

And when no longer time shall flow,
And nature's sun hath ceas'd to glow;
When all that speaks of earthly grace,
Hath vanish'd from the realm of space :-

D

The new creation, then complete,
Shall rise o'er ruin'd nature's seat,
In perfect beauty,-fit abode,-
Meet temple for th' Incarnate GOD.

O GOD the FATHER, GOD the SON,
And HOLY SPIRIT, Three in One;
Till then, both worlds protect and bless,-
The world of nature and of grace.

Amen.

BEFORE THE HOLY COMMUNION.

28 THOU, great Creator, art possess'd,
And Thou alone, of changeless rest;
And 'tis the work of Heav'n to raise
To Thee its ceaseless song of praise.

But we, poor exiles, here below,-
Our lot is toil and grief and woe:
Oh! how shall we then join the song,
Which can but to the blest belong?

But Thou, Who wilt forgiving be
To all who truly turn to Thee;
Grant us to mourn the hapless cause
Of all our woe, Thy broken laws!

Then, to our deep repentant grief,
Let faith and hope bring due relief;
So we at length may lift our song,
Amid the bright celestial throng.

Eternal GOD, the FATHER, SON,
And HOLY SPIRIT, Three in One;
O may our alleluias rise,

To swell the chorus of the skies.

Amen.

BEFORE THE SERMON.

29 ALLELUIA!-best and sweetest
Of th' angelic hymns of praise!
Alleluia!-ever meetest

Theme for seraphs' rapt'rous lays :-
Without ceasing,

This triumphant song they raise.

Alleluia!-Church victorious,

Join the concert of the sky!
Alleluia !-bright and glorious,
Ye may lift this strain on high!
We, poor exiles,

Join not yet your melody.

Alleluia!-strains of gladness

Suit not souls with anguish torn;
Alleluia!-sounds of sadness

Best become our state forlorn :
Our offences

We with bitter tears must mourn,

But our earnest supplication,
Holy GoD, we raise to Thee;
Grant us pardon and salvation,

And at length Thy Face to see :—
Alleluia !-

Then our ceaseless song shall be. Amen.

AFTER THE SERMON.

O SAVIOUR of mankind,

Thy promis'd help we claim;

That so our life Thou may'st not find,
Unworthy of our name.

From guilt we vainly fly,

Unless the grace Thou give:

Through Thee alone to sin we die;
In Thee alone we live.
