Christmas Day.

After the Third Collect.

11 Hark! the herald-angels sing,
Glory to the new-born KING,
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
GOD and sinners reconcil'd!

Joyful, all

ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies,
With th' angelic host proclaim,
CHRIST is born in Bethlehem!

CHRIST, by highest heav'n ador'd,
CHRIST, the everlasting LORD,
Now at length behold Him come,
Offspring of a Virgin's womb!

Veil'd in flesh the Godhead see!
Hail! Incarnate Deity!

Pleas'd as Man with men to dwell,

Hail! the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!

Hail! the Sun of Righteousness!

Light and life to all He brings,

Ris'n with healing in His wings.

Meek, He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

JESU, LORD, to Thee be praise,
Now, and through eternal days;
FATHER, equal praise to Thee,
With the SPIRIT, ever be. Amen.

12 HARK! what mean those holy voices, Sweetly sounding through the skies?— Lo! th' angelic host rejoices,

Heav'nly alleluias rise.

Glory in the highest, glory,"

Thus they chant their joyful strain ;
Glory in the highest, glory,

Peace on earth, good will tow'rds men.”

With their blessed alleluias,

Hear what wondrous things they tell,— How lost man has now a Saviour, ONE to conquer death and hell!

Born Thy people to deliver,

JESU, from the death of sin;

Born to make us Thine for ever,

Still abide our souls within.

Hail! Thou Day-Spring of Salvation!
JESU, LORD, to Thee be praise ;
FATHER, Thine be adoration,

SPIRIT, Thine through endless days. Amen.

13 WHILE shepherds watch'd their flocks by night,

All seated on the ground,
The Angel of the LORD came down,
And glory shone around.

"Fear not," said he, (for mighty dread
Had seiz'd their troubled mind,)
"Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind.

"To you, in David's town, this day
Is born of David's line,

And this shall be the sign :-

"The heav'nly Babe you there shall find
To mortal sight display'd,

All meanly wrapt in swathing-bands,
And in a manger laid."

Thus spake the seraph, and forthwith
Appear'd a shining throng

Of angels, praising GoD, and thus
Address'd their joyful song:-

"All glory be to GoD on high,
And to the earth be peace;

Good-will henceforth from heav'n to men
Begin, and never cease." Amen.

14 O COME, all ye faithful, joyfully triumphing; O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem! Come and behold there,born the King of Angels: O come, let us adore Him,

O come, let us adore Him,

O come, let us adore Him, CHRIST the LORD.

GOD eternal, of GOD, Light eternal, of Light, Lo, He despises not the Virgin's womb; Very GoD, Begotten, not Created:

O come, let us adore Him, &c.

Sing, choirs angelic, sing ye exulting,

Sing, all ye citizens of Heav'n above ;-
Glory to GOD, yea, glory in the highest !
O come, let us adore Him, &c.

Yea, LORD, we greet Thee, born in this blest

JESU, all glory to Thee be giv'n!

WORD of the FATHER, now in Flesh appearing:

O come, let us adore Him, &c. Amen.

Saint Stephen's Day.

15 THE SON of GOD goes forth to war,
A kingly crown to gain;

His blood-red banner streams afar
Who follows in His train?

Who best can drink His cup
Triumphant over pain ;-

of woe,

Who patient bears His cross below,-
He follows in His train :—

The martyr, first, whose eagle eye
Could pierce beyond the grave;
Who saw his Master in the sky,
And call'd on Him to save;

Like Him, with pardon on His tongue,
In midst of mortal pain,

He pray'd for them that did the
Who follows in his train?

A noble army,-men and boys,
The matron and the maid,
Around the SAVIOUR's throne rejoice,
In robes of light array'd.

They climb'd the steep ascent to heav'n,
Through peril, toil, and pain;

O GOD, to us may grace be giv'n

To follow in their train. Amen.

In other respects, the same as on Christmas Day.
