I

"My grace is sufficient for thee."
2 COR. xii. 9.

have no help but Thine, nor do I need

Another arm, save Thine, to lean upon;
It is enough, my Lord, enough indeed;

10%

My strength is in Thy might-Thy might alone.
2 I have no wisdom, save Thy full supplies,-
My Wisdom and my Teacher, both in one;
No wisdom can I lack while Thou art wise,
No teaching do I crave, but Thine alone.

3 Mine is the sin, but Thine the righteousness:
Mine is the guilt, but Thine the cleansing blood:
Here is my robe, my refuge, and my peace,-
Thy blood, Thy righteousness, O Lord my God!
4 And see, the pillow-cloud is rising now,
And moving onward thro' the desert night;
It beckons, and I follow, for I know
It leads me to the heritage of light.

"I forgave thee all that debt."
MATT. Xviii. 32.

TEN thousand talents once I owed,

And nothing had to pay;

But Jesus freed me from the load,
And took my debt away.

2 Yet since the Lord forgave my sin,
And did my soul restore,
Far more indebted I have been
Than e'er I was before.

3 The love I owe for sin forgiven,
For power to believe,

For present peace, and promised heaven,
No angel can conceive!

O.M.

That love of Thine, Thou sinner's Friend,
Which warmed Thy bleeding heart,

My little all can ne'er extend

To pay a thousandth part.

The poor returns I strive to make,
From Thee I first obtain;

And 'tis of grace that Thou wilt take
Such poor returns again.

"Why are ye fearful?"
MATT. viii. 26.

BEGONE, unbelief!

My Saviour is near,
And for my relief
Will surely appear;
By prayer let me wrestle,
And He will perform;
With Christ in the vessel,
I smile at the storm.

2 Though dark be my way,
Since He is my Guide,
'Tis mine to obey,

"Tis His to provide:
Though cisterns be broken,
And creatures all fail,
The word He hath spoken
Shall surely prevail.

His love in time past

Forbids me to think
He'll leave me at last
In trouble to sink:
Each sweet Ebenezer
I bave in review,
Confirms His good pleasure
To help me quite through

Since all that I meet
Shall work for my good,
The bitter is sweet,

The medicine is food:
Though painful at present,
'Twill cease before long;
And then, O how pleasant
The conqueror's song!

"Commit thy way unto the Lord."
PSALM XXXvii. 5.

10 Lord, my best desires fulfil;

And help me to resign

4-5'8.6.5.6.5.

Life, health, and comfort, to Thy will,
And make Thy pleasure, mine.

2 Why should I shrink at Thy command,
Whose love forbids my fears;

Or tremble at the gracious hand
That wipes away my tears ?

O.M

3 No-rather let me freely yield
What most I prize to Thee;
Who never hast a good withheld,
Nor wilt withhold from me.

4 Thy favour, all my journey through,
Thou art engaged to grant ;
What else I want, or think I do,
'Tis better still to want.

5 Wisdom and mercy guide my way;
Shall I resist them both?

A poor, blind creature of a day,
And crushed before the moth!
6 But ah, my inward spirit cries,
Still bind me to Thy sway:

Else the next cloud that veils my skies
Drives all these thoughts away.

"Come ye near unto Me."

ISAIAH xlviii. 16.

NEARER, my God, to Thee—

Nearer to Thee,

E'en though it be a cross
That raiseth me ;

Still all my song would be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee-
Nearer to Thee.

2 Though like a wanderer,
Daylight all gone,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams, I'd be
Nearer, my God, to Thee-
Nearer to Thee.

3 There let the way appear
Steps up to heaven;

All that Thou sendest me
In mercy given :
Angels to beckon me

Nearer, my God, to Thee

Nearer to Thee.

4 Then, with my waking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs,
Bethel I'll raise;
So by my woes to be,

Nearer, my God, to Thee-
Nearer to Thee.

Or, if on joyful wing,
Cleaving the sky,

Sun, moon, and stars forgot,
Upwards I fly;

Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee-
Nearer to Thee.

"I know Thy works."
REV. ii. 2.

1 GO, labour on; spend and be spent ;

Your joy to do your Father's will:

It is the way the Master went,

Should not the servants tread it still?
2 Go, labour on; 'tis not for naught;
All earthly loss is heavenly gain:
Men heed you not, men praise you not;
The Master praises;-what are men?
Go, labour on; enough, while here,
If Jesus praise you; if He deign
Your willing heart to mark and cheer,
No toil for Him shall be in vain.

4 Go, labour on; your hands are weak,
Your knees are faint, your soul cast down;
Yet falter not ;-the prize you seek

Is near, a kingdom and a crown!

"Not my will, but Thine be done."
LUKE Xxii. 42.

NE prayer I have-all prayers in one-
When I am wholly Thine;

Thy will, my God, Thy will be done,
And let that will be mine.
All-wise, Almighty, and All-good,
In Thee I firmly trust;

Thy ways, unknown or understood,
Are merciful and just.

2 Is life with many comforts crowned,
Upheld in peace and health,-
With dear affections twined around?
-Lord, in my time of wealth,
May I remember, that to Thee
Whate'er I have, I owe;

And back, in gratitude, from me,
May all Thy bounties flow.

3 Thy gifts are only then enjoyed,
When used as talents lent;
Those talents only well employed,
When in Thy service spent:
And though Thy wisdom take away,
Shall I arraign Thy will?

No: let me bless Thy name and say,
"The Lord is gracious still."

4 A pilgrim, through the earth, I roam,
Of nothing long possessed;
And all must fail when I go home,
For this is not my rest.

Write but my name upon the roll
Of Thy redeemed above;

Then-heart, and mind, and strength, and

soul,

I'll love Thee for Thy love.

"A faithful and wise servant."
MATT. xxiv. 45.

YE

E servants of the Lord,
Each in his office wait;

Observant of His heavenly word,
And watchful at His gate.

Let all your lamps be bright,
And trim the golden flame;

Gird up your loins, as in His sight,
For awful is His name.

Watch 'tis your Lord's command;
And while we speak He's near;
Mark the first signal of His hand,
And ready all appear.

O happy servant, he

In such a posture found!

He shall his Lord with rapture see,
And be with honour crowned.

Christ shall the banquet spread,
With His all-bounteous hand ;

And raise that faithful servant's head
Amidst the angelic band.

GOD

"Thy way is in the sea."
PSALM 1Xxvii. 19.

OD moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform:
He plants His footsteps in the sea,
And rides upon the storm.
