who love you, what thanks have ye? for sinners, also, love those who love them. 33 And if ye do good to those who do good to you, what thanks have ye? for sinners, also, do the same. 34 And if e lend to those from whom ye hope to receive, what thanks have ye? for sinners, also, lend to sinners, that they may receive an equal return. 35 But love your enemies; and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward will be great, and ye will be the sons of the Most High: for he is kind to the unthankful, and to the evil.

36 "Be ye [therefore] comassionate, as your Father also s compassionate. 37 And judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye hall be forgiven: 38 give, and at shall be given to you: good neasure, pressed down, and haken together, and running ver, shall be given into your ap. For with the same measure vith which ye deal out, it shall e measured to you again."

39 He spake also a parable to hem; "Can the blind lead the lind? will they not both fall nto a ditch?

40 "The disciple is not above is teacher: but every one that s perfected, shall be as his eacher.

41" And why observest thou he mote in thy brother's eye, ut perceivest not the beam in hine own eye? 42 Or how sanst thou say to thy brother; Brother, let me take out the

mote which is in thine eye;' not considering, that there is a beam in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite! first take the beam out of thine own eye, and then thou wilt see clearly to take out the mote which is in thy brother's eye.

43" For there is no good tree which bringeth forth corrupt fruit; nor a corrupt tree which bringeth forth good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit: from thorns men do not gather figs, nor from a bramble-bush do they cut grapes. 45 A good man, out of the good treasure of his heart, bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil [man,] out of the evil [treasure of his heart,] bringeth forth that which is evil: for out of the abundance of his heart [his] mouth speaketh.

46 "And why call ye me Lord, Lord,' and do not the things which I say?

47 "Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my words, and doth them, I will show you to whom he is like. 48 He is like a man who, in building a house, digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock and when the flood rose, the stream dashed with violence upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded on a rock. 49 But he that heareth, and doth not, is like a man who, without laying a foundation, built a house upon the earth; against which the stream dashed with violence, and immediately it fell: and the ruin of that house was great."

CH. VII. 1 NOW when he, the day after, that he went into

had ended all his discourses, in
the hearing of the people, he
entered into Capernaum. 2 And
a certain centurion's servant,
who was dear to his master, was
sick, and ready to die. 3 And
having heard of Jesus, the cen-
turion sent to him some elders
of the Jews, to beseech him that
he would come and heal his
servant. 4 And when they came
to Jesus, they entreated him
earnestly, saying, "He is wor-
thy, for whom thou wilt do this:
5 for he loveth our nation; and
he hath built us a synagogue." |

6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, to say to him, "Master, trouble not thyself; for I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof. 7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come to thee: but command by word, and my servant will be cured. 8 For even I, who am a man placed under authority, yet having soldiers under me, say to this man, 'Go,' and he goeth; and to another, 'Come,' and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this,' and he doth it."

a city called Nain: and [many
of] his disciples went with him,
also a great crowd. 12 Now as
he approached the gate of the
city, behold, the people were
carrying out a dead man, the
only son of his mother, and she
was a widow: and many people
of the city [were] with her. 13
And when the Lord saw her, he
had compassion on her, and said
to her, "Weep not." 14 The
advancing, he touched the bier
(now the bearers stood still;)
and said, "Young man, I say to
thee, Arise."

15 Then he that had been dead sat up, and began to speak And he delivered him to hi mother. 16 And fear seized o all and they glorified God saying, "A great prophet i risen up among us ;" and, “ Go hath regarded his people." 1 And this report concerning him went forth through all Judea and through all the countr round about.

18 AND the disciples of Joh told him of all these things. 19 Then John called unto hin two of his disciples, and ses to Jesus, saying, "Art thou h that was to come? or do w look for another?" 20 And th men, coming to him, said

9 And when Jesus heard these words, he wondered at him; and turning, said to the multi-"John the Baptist hath sent u tude that followed him, "I as- to thee, saying, Art thou h sure you, I have not found so that was to come? or do w great faith, even in Israel." 10 look for another?" " And those who were sent, on returning to the house, found the servant who had been sick, perfectly well.

11 AND it came to pass, on

21 (Now in that very hour h had cured many of disease and grievous maladies, and d evil spirits; and to many tha were blind he had given sight.

22 Then Jesus answering, said to them, "Go and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; that the blind receive ight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the Head are raised, to the poor glad tidings are proclaimed. 23 And happy is he, who shall not see cause of offence in me.”

24 And the messengers of John having departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, "What went ye out into the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what went ye out to see? 25 A man clothed in soft rainent? Lo, those that are gorreously apparelled, and live uxuriously, are in palaces. 26 But what went ye out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, nd much more than a prophet. 7 This is he of whom it is ritten, ' Behold, I send my essenger before thy face; who ill prepare thy way before lee.' 28 For I tell you, Among hose that are born of women, here is no greater [prophet] lan John [the Baptist] but the ast in the reign of God is reater than he.

29 And all the people, and e publicans, that heard him, cknowledged the mercy of fod, and were baptized, with e baptism of John. 30 But the harisees and teachers of the w have rejected the council of od toward them, not having een baptized by him. 31 To hat therefore shall I liken the $en of this generation ? and to hat are they like? 32 They

are like children sitting in the market-place, and calling one to another, and saying, 'We have piped to you, and ye have not danced: we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.'

33" For John the Baptist is come neither eating [bread,] nor drinking [wine;] and ye say, 'He hath a demon.' 34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners.' 35 And yet wisdom is justified by [all] her children."

36 AND one of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him. And entering into the Pharisee's house, he placed himself at meat. 37 And, lo, a woman in the city, who had been a sinner, when she knew that he was at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of balsam, 38 and stood behind, at his feet, weeping, and began to wet his feet with tears; and she wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the balsam.

39 But the Pharisee, who had invited him, seeing it, spake within himself, saying, "This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who, and what kind of woman this is that toucheth him; for she is a sinner." 40 Then Jesus speaking, said to him, "Simon, I have somewhat to say to thee." And he said, "Teacher, say it." 41 "There was a certain creditor who had two debtors: the one owed five hundred denarii, and

the other fifty. 42 [And,] as they had nothing to pay, he freely forgave them both. [Tell me,] therefore, Which of them will love him most ?" 43 Then Simon answering, said, "I suppose, that he, to whom he freely forgave most." And he said to him, "Thou hast judged rightly."

4 AND when a great mult tude assembled, and inhabitan of every city came togeth unto him, he spake by a parable 5 "A sower went out to so his seed: and, as he sowe some seed fell by the way-side and it was trodden under foo and the fowls of the air devour

44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon, "Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house: thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with her hair. 45 Thou gavest me no kiss : but she, since the time she entered in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 Thou didst noted it. 6 And some fell upon anoint my head with oil: but she hath anointed [my feet] with balsam. 47 Wherefore I tell thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven;*for she hath loved much; but he to whom little is forgiven, loveth little."

48 Then he said to her, "Thy sins are forgiven." 49 And those that were at meat with him began to say, within themselves, "Who is this that even forgiveth sins?" 50 And he said to the woman, 66 Thy faith hath saved thee: go in peace."

A he said these things, he crie out, "He that hath ears to hea let him hear."

9 And his disciples aske him, [saying,] "What may parable be?" 10 And he sai " To you it is given to kno the mysteries of the reign God: but to others I speak

but then the impostor cometh, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 And those on the rock are they, who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; yet having no root, are but temporary believers, and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns are they, who, having heard, go forth, and are choked with anxious cares, and riches, and pleasures of this life, and bring forth no fruit to perfection. 15 But that, in the good ground, are they, who, having heard the word, retain it in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit with per

severance.

16" Now no one, when he hath lighted a lamp, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a couch; but setteth it on a light-stand, that those who enter in may see the light. 17 For nothing is hidden, which shall not be manifest: nor is any thing secret, which shall not be known and come abroad. 18 Take heed therefore how ye hear for whosoever hath improved, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not improved from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have."

19 AND his mother, and his brethren came to him, and could not gain access to him because of the crowd. 20 And it was told him by some, who said, "Thy mother and thy brethren

said to them, "My mother and my brethren are those that hear the word of God, and obey it.”

22 It also came to pass, on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples, and said to them, "Let us pass over to the other side of the lake." 23 And they launched forth. But as they sailed, he fell asleep and a storm of wind came down on the lake; and they were filling with water, and were in danger. 24 And they came, and awoke him, saying,

Master, master, we perish." Then arising, he rebuked the wind, and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 And he said to them, "Where is your faith ?" And they feared and wondered, saying one to another, "Who is this? for he commandeth even the winds and the water, and they obey him."

26 AND they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. 27 And when he had gone forth on land, there met him a certain man of the city, that had demons a long time, and who wore no clothes, nor abode in any house, but in the tombs. 28 And when he saw [Jesus,] he cried out, and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What hast thou to do with me, [Jesus] thou son of the most high [God]? I entreat thee, torment me not."
