The thirty-fourth annual session of the legislature of the state of Wisconsin, began at Madison, the capital of said state, the second Wednesday, being the 12th day, of January, 1881.

Pursuant to law, at 12 o'clock M. of said day, the senate was called to order by Hon. James M. Bingham, the lieutenantgovernor.

The roll of senators holding over from 1880, and of the senators elect, as transmitted to the senate by Hon. Hans B. Warner, secretary of state, was read by the clerk as follows:

ELECTION HELD IN

DAY OF NOVEMBER,

I, Hans B. Warner, secretary of state of the state of Wisconsin, do hereby certify that the foregoing is a correct list of the members of the senate of the state of Wisconsin, elected at the general election held on the second day of November, 1880, as appears from the certificates of the several county clerks of the several counties comprising the senatorial districts named in the foregoing list, which certificates are now on file in this office.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my official seal, at the capitol, in the city of Madison, this 10th day of January, A. D. 1881.

The roll of senators-elect being called, the following senators appeared at the clerk's desk, and subscribed to the oath of office, which was administered by the president of the senate, viz.:

Senators W. A. Ellis, A. L. Phillips, E. B. Simpson, J. F. Wiley, Thos. B. Scott, A. K. Delaney, Joseph Rankin, H. Richardson, J. B. Hamilton, C. F. Crosby, Fred. Kusel, Geo. B. Burrows, G. E. McKeeby, A. Finkelnburg, M. P. Wing and G. F. Hunt.

The roll of senators being then called, the following responded to their names, viz.:

Senators Anderson, Blackstone, Burrows, Carter, Crosby, Delaney, Ellis, Fifield, Finkelnburg, Griffin, Hamilton, Hunt, Kelly, Kusel, McGrew, McKeeby, Paul, Phillips, Price, Quarles, Rankin, Richardson, Ryland, Scott, Simpson, Smith, Sutherland, Thomas, Weaver, Wiley, Wing and Woodman.

Absent- Senator Van Schaick.
