L.M.

When heaven and earth shall pass away,
And thus prepare to meet Him.

15 THE Lord will come! the earth shall quake, The hills their fixed seat forsake, And with'ring from the vault of night The stars withdraw their feeble light. 2 The Lord will come !-but not the same As once in lowly form He came

8.7.

A silent Lamb to slaughter led,

The bruised, the suffering, and the dead.
3 The Lord will come !-an awful form
Mid' brightest flame and darkest storm,
On thunder-cloud with wings of wind,
Anointed Judge of human kind.
4 Can this be He who once did stray
A pilgrim on the world's highway;
By power oppress'd and mock'd by pride,
The Nazarene, the Crucified?

5 Go, sinners, to the rocks complain,
Go, seek the mountain's cleft in vain ;
But faith victorious o'er the tomb
Shall sing for joy, "The Lord is come!"

213. 2

COME, Thou long expected Jesus,
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel's strength and consolation:
Hope of all the earth Thou art:
Dear desire of every nation,
Joy of ev'ry longing heart.
3 Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child, and yet a King:
Born to reign in us for ever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.

4 By Thine own Eternal Spirit,
Rule in all our hearts alone:
By Thine all-sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

17 LIGHT of the lonely pilgrim's heart, Star of the coming day!

25.

Arise, and with Thy morning beams
Chase all our griefs away!

2 Come, blessed Lord! let every shore
And answering island sing
The praises of Thy royal name,
And own Thee as their King.

3 Bid the whole earth, responsive now
To the bright world above,

Break forth in rapturous strains of joy,
In memory of Thy love.

4 O Lord! Thy fair creation groans,
The air, the earth, the sea,

In unison with all our hearts,

And calls aloud for Thee.

5 Thine was the Cross, with all its pains
Of grace and peace divine:
Be Thine the Crown of glory now,
The palm of victory Thine.

18 COME, Lord, and tarry not;

Б.

Bring the long looked-for day;
Oh, why these years of waiting here,
These ages of delay?

2 Come, for Thy saints still wait;
Daily ascends their sigh;
The Spirit and the Bride say,
Dost Thou not hear the cry?
3 Come, for creation groans,

Impatient of Thy stay,

Come;

Worn out with these long years of ill,
These ages of delay.

4 Come, for the corn is ripe,
Put in Thy sickle now,

Reap the great harvest of the earth,
Sower and Reaper Thou

5 Come, in Thy glorious might,
Come with the iron rod,

Scattering Thy foes before Thy face,
Most Mighty Son of God.

6 Come, and begin Thy reign
Of everlasting peace;

Come, take the Kingdom to Thyself
Great King of Righteousness.

YE virgin souls, arise:

With all the dead, awake:

Unto salvation wise,

Oil in your vessels take;

Upstarting at the midnight cry,

Behold the heavenly Bridegroom nigh.
2 He comes, He comes to call
The nations to His bar,

And raise to glory all

Who meet for glory are;
Make ready for your full reward;

Go forth with joy to meet your Lord.

3 The everlasting doors

Shall soon the saints receive,
Above yon angel powers,

In glorious joy to live;

Far from a world of grief and sin,
With God eternally shut in.

4 Then let us wait to hear

The trumpet's welcome sound :
To see our Lord appear,

Watching, let us be found,

With lamps well trimmed; then joyful rise,
And meet our Saviour in the skies.

HAIL to the Lord's anointed,
Great David's greater Son!
Hail, in the time appointed,
His reign on earth begun!
He comes to break oppression,
To let the captive free;
To take away transgression,
And rule in equity.

2 Kings shall fall down before Him,
Glory and incense bring;
All nations shall adore Him,
His praise all people sing;
For He shall have dominion
O'er river, sea, and shore,
Far as the eagle's pinion
Or dove's light wing can soar.
3 O'er every foe victorious,
He on His throne shall rest;
From age to age more glorious,
All blessing and all blest.
The tide of time shall never
His covenant remove;

His name shall stand for ever;
That name to us is-Love.

LO! He comes, with clouds descending,
Once for favoured sinners slain;

Thousand, thousand saints attending,
Swell the triumpth of His train ;
Hallelujah! God appears on earth to reign.
2 Every eye shall now behold Him,

Robed in dreadful majesty;

They who set at nought and sold Him,

Pierced and nailed Him to the tree, Deeply wailing, shall the true Messiah sec. 3 Now redemption, long expected!

See, in solemn pomp appear,
All His saints, by man rejected,

P.M. 128.

Rise to meet Him in the air ;
Hallelujah; see the Son of God appear.
4 Yea, Amen! let all adore Thee,
High on Thine eternal throne;
Saviour, take Thy power and glory,

Claim the kingdom as Thy own; [come.
Oh! come quickly! Hallelujah! come Lord,
HARK! 'tis the watchman's cry,

Wake, brethren, wake,

Jesus our Lord is nigh.

Wake, brethren, wake.
Sleep is for sons of night;
Ye are children of the light,
Yours is the glory bright,

Wake, brethren, wake.

2 Call to each waking band

Watch, brethren, watch,

Clear is our Lord's command
Watch, brethren, watch.

Be ye as men that wait
Always at the Master's gate,
Even though He tarry late,

Watch, brethren, watch.
3 Hear we the pastor's voice,
Pray, brethren, pray!

Would ye his heart rejoice?
Pray, brethren, pray.

Sin calls for constant fear,
Weakness needs the strong One near
Long as ye struggle here,
Pray, brethren, pray.

4 Now sound the final chord,

Praise, brethren, praise !

Thrice holy is our Lord,

Praise, brethren, praise.

What more befits the tongues,
Soon to join the angel's songs,
