Brotherly Love. -SWAIN.

Woodland.

1 How sweet, how heavenly, is the sight,
When those that love the Lord
In one another's peace delight,
And thus fulfil his word!

2 When each can feel his brother's sigh,
And with him bear a part;

When sorrow flows from eye to eye,
And joy from heart to heart!-

3 When free from self-exalting pride,
Our wishes all above,

Each can his brother's failings hide,
And show a brother's love!

4 Love is the golden chain that binds
The happy souls above;

And he's an heir of heaven that finds
His bosom glow with love.

Brotherly Love. - WATTS.

1 Lo! what an entertaining sight
Those friendly brethren prove,

Whose cheerful hearts in bands unite
Of piety and love!

2 Where streams of bliss, from Christ the spring, Descend to every soul;

And heavenly peace, with balmy wing,
Shades and bedews the whole.

3 'Tis like the oil, divinely sweet,
On Aaron's rev'rend head;

The trickling drops perfumed his feet,
And o'er his garments spread.

4 'Tis pleasant as the morning dews,
That fall on Zion's hill,

Where God his milder glory shows,
And makes his grace distil.

Christian Fellowship. -FAWCETT.

1 BLEST be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love:
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.

2 Before our Father's throne,

Boylston.

We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims, are one,
Our comforts and our cares.

3 We share our mutual woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.

Blessedness of Union. - Barbauld.

1 How blest the sacred tie that binds,
In union sweet, congenial minds!

Wilmer.

How swift the heavenly course they run,
Whose hearts and faith and hopes are one!
2 To each, the soul of each how dear!
What tender love, what holy fear!
How doth the generous flame within
Refine from earth and cleanse from sin!

3 Together oft they seek the place
Where God reveals his awful face;
At length they meet in realms above,
A heaven of joy, because of love.

1 IN one fraternal bond of love,
One fellowship of mind,

The saints below and saints above
Their bliss and glory find.

2 Here, in their house of pilgrimage,
Thy statutes are their song;
There, through one bright eternal age,
Thy praises they prolong.

The Love of God.-H. MoORE.

Rapture.

1 My God, thy boundless love I praise !
How bright on high its glories blaze!
How sweetly bloom below!

It streams from thine eternal throne;
Through heaven its joys forever run,
And o'er the earth they flow.

2 'Tis love that paints the purple morn,
And bids the clouds, in air upborne,
Their genial drops distil;
In every vernal beam it glows,
And breathes in every gale that blows,
And glides in every rill.

3 But in the gospel it appears
In sweeter, fairer characters,

And charms the ravished breast:
There, love immortal leaves the sky,
To wipe the drooping mourner's eye,
And give the weary rest.

4 Then let the love that makes me blest
With cheerful praise inspire my breast,
And ardent gratitude;

And all my thoughts and passions tend
To thee, my Father and
my Friend,
My soul's eternal good.

St. Ann's.

CHURCH PSALMODY.

God's Love unchangeable.

1 FAITHFUL, O Lord, thy mercies are;
A Rock that cannot move:
A thousand promises declare
Thy constancy of love.

2 Throughout the universe it reigns,
It stands forever sure;

And while thy truth, O God, remains,
Thy goodness shall endure.

St. Thomas.

God's Mercies.

-WATTS.

1 My soul, repeat his praise,
Whose mercies are so great;
Whose anger is so slow to rise,
So ready to abate.

2 High as the heavens are raised
Above the ground we tread,
So far the riches of his grace
Our highest thoughts exceed.

3 His power subdues our sins;
And his forgiving love,

Far as the east is from the west,
Doth all our guilt remove.

Power, Wisdom, and Goodness. -WATTS.

1 WE sing the mighty power of God,
That made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad,
And built the lofty skies.

2 We sing the wisdom that ordained
The sun to rule the day;

Marlow.

The moon shines full at his command,
And all the stars obey.

3 We sing the goodness of the Lord,
Who fills the earth with food;
He formed the creatures by his word,
And then pronounced them good.

4 Lord! how thy wonders are displayed,
Where'er we turn the eye;

If we survey the ground we tread,
Or gaze upon the sky.

[blocks in formation]

1 THERE's not a star whose twinkling light
Shines on the distant earth,

And cheers the silent gloom of night,
But goodness gave it birth.

2 There's not a cloud whose dews distil
Upon the parching clod,

And clothe with verdure vale and hill,
That is not sent by God.

3 There's not a place in earth's vast round,
In ocean's deep, or air,

Where skill and wisdom are not found,
For God is everywhere.
