34 My covenant will I not break,

Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. 35 Once have I sworn by my holiness

10 That I will not lie unto David.

36 His seed shall endure forever,

And his throne as the sun before me.

37 It shall be established forever as the moon, And as a faithful witness in heaven.

Selah!"

But thou hast cast off and abhorred, Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.

39 Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant, Thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges,

Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.

41 All that pass by the way spoil him,

He is a reproach to his neighbours.

42 Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries, Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

43 Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword,

And hast not made him to stand in the battle.

44 Thou hast made his "glory to cease,

And cast his throne down to the ground.

45 The days of his youth hast thou shortened, Thou hast covered him with shame.

Selah!

46 How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself forever?

Shall thy wrath burn like fire?

47 Remember how short my time is;

Wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?

48 What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death?

Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave?

Selah!

49 LORD, where are thy former loving-kindnesses, Which thou swarest unto David in thy truth? 50 Remember, LORD, the reproach of thy servants; How I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;

51 Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

52 Blessed be the LORD for evermore!

Amen, and Amen.

up mine eyes,

O Thou that dwellest in the heavens!

Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters,

And as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress;

So our eyes wait upon the LORD our God,

Until that he have mercy upon us.

3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us; For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

4 Our soul is exceedingly filled

With the scorning of those that are at ease,
And with the contempt of the proud.

PSALM XIII.

DURING THE CAPTIVITY, BEFORE THE JEWS WERE ANIMATED WITH AN IMMEDIATE PROSPECT OF EMANCIPATION.

The Psalmist complaineth of delay in help, 1, 2; he prayeth for preventing grace, 3, 4; he rejoiceth in the Divine mercy, 5, 6.

T To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

1 How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? Forever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? 2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily?

How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? 3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God;

Lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; 4 Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; And those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved. 5 But I have trusted in thy mercy;

My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.

6 I will sing unto the LORD,

Because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

PSALM XXXVII.

DURING THE CAPTIVITY, BEFORE THE JEWS WERE ANIMATED WITH AN IMMEDIATE PROSPECT OF EMANCIPATION.

The Psalmist persuadeth to patience and confidence in God, by the different estate of the godly and the wicked.

TA Psalm of David.

1 Fret not thyself because of evil-doers,

Neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the

And wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good;

grass,

So shalt thou dwell in the land, and 'verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the LORD,

And he shall give thee the desires of thy heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD,

Trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light,

And thy judgment as the noonday.

9 For devil-doers shall be cut off;

But those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be— Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth ;

And shall delight themselves in the abundance of

peace.

12 The wicked 'plotteth against the just,

And gnasheth upon him with his teeth. 13 The LORD shall laugh at him;

For he seeth that his day is coming.

14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow,

To cast down the poor and needy,

And to slay 'such as be of upright conversation. 15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart,

And their bows shall be broken.

16 A little that a righteous man hath

Is better than the riches of many wicked. 17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the LORD upholdeth the righteous. 18 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever.

19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time,

And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

20 But the wicked shall perish,

And the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs;

They shall consume; into smoke shall they consume
