15. Sinners vill you.

8.7.4.

message,

1 SINNERS, will you scorn the
Sent in mercy from above?
Every sentence-O, how tender!
Every line is full of love;

Listen to it

Every line is full of love.

2 Hear the heralds of the Gospel,
News from Zion's king proclaim,
To each rebel sinner-"Pardon,
Free forgiveness in his name?
How important!

[ocr errors]

Free forgiveness in his name!

2 Tempted souls, they bring you succor; Fearful hearts, they quell your fears; And with news of consolation,

Chase away the falling tears:

Tender heralds

Chase away the falling tears.

4 Who hath our report believed?
Who received the joyful word?
Who embraced the news of pardon,
Offer'd to you by the Lord?
Can you slight it-
Offer'd to you by the Lord!

5 O, ye angels, hovering round us,
Waiting spirits, speed your way,
Hasten to the court of heaven,
Tidings bear without delay:
Rebel sinners

Glad the message will obey.

16. Awake, my soul. L. M.

1 AWAKE, my soul, to joyful lays,
And sing the great Redeemer's praise;
He justly claims a song from me,
His loving-kindness, Ŏ, how free!

His loving-kindness-Loving-kindness,
His loving-kindness, O, how free!

2 He saw me ruin'd in the fall,
Yet loved me notwithstanding all,
He saved me from my lost estate,
His loving-kindness, O, how great
3 Though numerous hosts of mighty foes,
Though earth and hell my way oppose,
He safely leads my soul along,

His loving-kindness, O, how strong!
4 When trouble, like a gloomy clot,
Has gather'd thick, and thunder'd loud,
He near my soul has always stood,
His loving-kindness, O, how good!
5 Often I feel my sinful heart,

Prone from my Jesus to depart;
But though I have him oft forgot,
His loving-kindness changes not.
6 Soon shall I pass the gloomy vale,
Soon all my mortal powers must fail;
O! may my last expiring breath
His loving-kindness sing in death.
7 Then let me mount and soar away,
To the bright world of endless day,
And sing, with rapture and surprise,
His loving-kindness in the skies.

MISSIONARY HYMN. 7. 6. D.

COMPOSED BY LOWELL MASON.

b c

17.

Missionary Hymn.

1. FROM Greenland's icy mountains,
From India's coral strand;
Where Afric's sunny fountains
Roll down their golden sand;
From many an ancient river,
From many a palmy plain,
They call us to deliver

Their land from error's chain,

2. What though the spicy breezes
Blow soft o'er Ceylon's isle,
Though every prospect pleases,
And only man is vile;
In vain with lavish kindness
The gifts of God are strown;
The heathen in his blindness
Bows down to wood and stone.

3. Shall we, whose souls are lighted
With wisdom from on high,
Shall we to men benighted
The lamp of life deny?
Salvation! O Salvation!
The joyful sound proclaim,
Till earth's remotest nation
Has learn'd Messiah's name.

4. Waft, waft, ye winds, his story,
And you, ye waters, roll,
Till, like a sea of glory,

It spreads from pole to pole
Till o'er our ransom'd nature,
The Lamb for sinners slain,
Redeemer, King, Creator,
In bliss returns to reigu.
