Amen.

GOSPEL, John, x. 11—16.

FIRST LESSON, Morning, Numb. xxxiii. xxiv.

Evening, Numb. xxv.

"Asham'd of Jesus! can it be?

A mortal man asham'd of thee!

Of thee, whom highest angels praise,
Whose glories shine through endless days?

"Asham'd of Jesus! of that friend

On whom my hopes of heav'n depend;
No, when I blush, be this my shaine,
That I no more revere his name!

"Asham'd of Jesus! yes I may,

When I've no guilt to wash away;
No tear to wipe, no good to crave,
No fears to quell, no soul to save.

"Till then, nor is the boasting vain,

Till then, I'll boast a Saviour slain;
And O may this my glory be,
That Saviour not asham'd of me!"

"Led by a father's gentle hand,
Through this dark wilderness of woe;
We long to reach that blessed land
Where streams of lasting comfort flow.
"Oh! may our meetings here be blest,
To fit us for that holy place;

May faith and love inflame each breast
With zeal to run the heav'nly race.
"Here may the Spirit shed the light
Of truth, to guide us on our way:
God's word upon our conscience write,
And teach us how to watch and pray.
"We'll think how Jesus lived and died,
The pains and sorrows that he bore,
The blessing which his love supplied,
The home to which he's gone before.
"There we will hope to rest ere long,
And gladly change, before his throne,
The pilgrim's for the conq'ror's song,
Sav'd by redeeming grace alone."

Whose pow'r and grace are unconfin'd,
Dispel the gloomy shades of night,
The thicker darkness of the mind.

“To mine illumin'd eyes display
The glorious truth thy word reveals,
Cause me to run the heav'nly way,
The book unfold, and loose the seals.

"Thine inward teachings make me know,
The myst'ries of redeeming love,
The emptiness of things below,
And excellence of things above.

Spread, like the sun, thy beams abroad,
To show the dangers of the way,

And guide my feeble steps to God."

Ten thousand angels fill'd the sky;
Those heavenly guards around thee wait,

More glorious when the Lord was there;
While he pronounc'd his dreadful law,
And struck the chosen tribes with awe.

When the rebellious pow'rs of hell,
That thousand souls had captive made,
Were all in chains like captives led.

He sent the promis'd Spirit down
With gifts and grace for rebel men,
That God might dwell on earth again."
