THE WRITTEN FOR THE AMERICAN SUNDAY-SCHOOL UNION, AND Philadelphia : AMERICAN SUNDAY-SCHOOL UNION, No. 146 CHESTNUT STREET. + Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1848, by the AMERICAN SUNDAY-SCHOOL UNION, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. INTRODUCTORY NOTE. IN presenting this history of a most interesting people to the reader, the compiler feels it due to himself to say, that he has derived the facts, here recorded, from authentic sources, and that he lays no claim to originality even in much of the language with which the narrative is clothed. The admirable Work on Persia by Rev. Justin Perkins, the Missionary Herald, the life of Dr. rant, and the letters of missionaries, ㄨ have furnished the materials that are here wrought up in a form that may secure their perusal by the youth of our country, and awaken in them a strong desire to spread the gospel among the nations of the earth. Ten years hence another volume of deeper interest than this may be gleaned from the reports of the missionaries to the Nestorians. |
