2 Let them roar, his awful surges

Let them boil-each dark-browed hill
Tremble, where the proud wave urges :
Here is yet one quiet rill;
Her calm waters,

Sion's joy, flow clear and still :

3 Joy of God's abode, the station
Where the Eternal fixed His tent-
God is there, a strong salvation;
On her place she towers unbent.
God will aid her

Ere the stars of morn be spent.

THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS.

[FOR CHURCH MEETINGS,]

H. F. LYTE

927 In the midst of the church will I sing praise.

Hebrews ii. 12.

WEET is the solemn voice that calls

SWE

The Christian to the house of prayer; I love to stand within its walls,

For Thou, O Lord, art present there.

I love to tread the hallowed courts,
Where two or three for worship meet;
For thither Christ Himself resorts,

And makes the little band complete.

3 'Tis sweet to raise the common song, To join in holy praise and love; And imitate the blessèd throng

That mingle hearts and songs above.

4 Within these walls may peace abound,
May all our hearts in one agree;
Where brethren meet, where Christ is found,
May peace and concord ever be.

928 The church...saluteth you.—1 Peter v. 13.

I

K

INDRED in Christ, for His dear sake,
A hearty welcome here receive;

May we together now partake

The joys which only He can give.

2 To you and us by grace 'tis given

To know the Saviour's precious name;
And shortly we shall meet in heaven,
Our hope, our way, our end the same.

3 May He by whose kind care we meet,
Send His good Spirit from above;
Make our communication sweet,

And cause our hearts to burn with love.

4 Forgotten be each worldly theme,

When Christians meet together thus :
We only wish to speak of Him

Who lived and died and reigns for us.

5 We'll talk of all He did and said
And suffered for us here below;
The path He marked for us to tread,
And what He's doing for us now.

6 Thus, as the moments pass away,
We'll love and wonder and adore :
And hasten on the glorious day,
When we shall meet to part no more.

Of every evil heart;

Whate'er of sin in us is found,
O bid it all depart.

2 When to the right or left we stray,
Pity Thy helpless sheep;

Bring back our feet into Thy way,
And there Thy wanderers keep.

3 Help us to help each other, Lord,
Each other's burden bear;
Let each his friendly aid afford,
To soothe his brother's care.

4 Help us to build each other up,
Help us ourselves to prove;
Increase our faith, confirm our hope,
And perfect us in love.

5 Complete at length Thy work of grace,
And take us to Thy rest,

Among Thy saints who see Thy face,
To be for ever blest.

Col. ii. 10.

RANT, O Saviour, to our prayers,
That this changeful world's affairs,

GR

Ordered by Thy governance,

May so peaceably advance,

That Thy church, with ardour due,
May her proper work pursue,
In all godly quietness,

Through the Name we ever bless.

should be saved.-Acts ii. 47.

ESUS, Thy sovereign grace we bless,
That crowns Thy gospel with success ;
With joy we bow before Thy throne,
Thy glorious triumphs are our own.

2 Those who have now Thy truth confessed
As their own faith and hope and rest,
We, in Thy name, with love embrace
As fellow-heirs of heavenly grace.
3 As living members, may they share
The joys and griefs which others bear;
And active in their stations prove,
In all the offices of love.

4 From all temptations them defend,
And keep them steadfast to the end;
Ever abiding in Thy love,

Until they join the church above.

935 Come in, thou blessed of the Lord.

Gen. xxiv. 31.

OME in, thou blessèd of the Lord;
Stranger nor foe art thou

COME

[ocr errors]

We welcome thee with warm accord,
Our friend, our brother now.

2 The hand of fellowship, the heart
Of love, we offer thee;

Leaving the world, thou dost but part
From lies and vanity.

In farkness be their guiding light.
In toll their stay and strengt
And let them not the conflict fear,
Its soreness or its length

For conficts here, in heaven are crowns;

For toll. is sweet repose:

For pain and grief. is rapture high,
A solace for all woes.

939 Ye were as sheep going astray, but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.-1 Peter ii. 25.

S

ICING loud for joy, ye saints of God,
Sing loud, ye angels blest,

For once these wandered far and lone,
But now in Christ they rest.

2 O'er mountains bare, through deserts wild,
And darkened vales they strayed,
But on them now the Shepherd's hand
With loving power is laid.

3 O Saviour, keep them evermore
Within Thy happy fold;

And may their kindled love for Thee
Never grow faint or cold.

4 Protect and bless while foes assail,
Give them Thy peace to know;
Then bring them to that better land
Where living waters flow ;-

5 That better land where Thou dost lead
Thy flock through pastures green,
And our blest eyes shall see our Lord,
Whom now we love unseen.
