5 He sent His only Son
To save us from our woe,
From Satan, sin, and death,
And every hurtful foe.
His power and grace
Are still the same,
And let His name
Have endless praise.

6 Give thanks aloud to God,
To God the heavenly King,
And let the spacious earth
His works and glories sing.
Thy mercy, Lord,

Shall still endure,
And ever sure
Abides Thy word.

191 Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy

I

calling, etc.-2 Timothy i. 9.

WOW to the power of God supreme

NOW

Be everlasting honours given;

He saves from hell-we bless His name—
He calls our wandering feet to heaven.

2 Not for our duties or deserts,

But of His own abounding grace,
He works salvation in our hearts,
And forms a people for His praise.

3 'Twas His own purpose that began To rescue rebels doomed to die ; He gave us grace in Christ His Son

Before He spread the starry sky.

4 Jesus the Lord appears at last,

And makes His Father's counsels known;
Declares the great transactions past,
And brings immortal blessings down.

5 He dies; and in that dreadful night
Did all the powers of hell destroy ;
Rising, He brought our heaven to light,
And took possession of the joy.

192 God commendeth His love toward us, in that

I

while we were yet sinners Christ died for
us.- -Romans v. 8.

AISE your triumphant songs
To an immortal tune;

RA

Let the wide earth resound the deeds
Celestial grace has done.

2 Sing how eternal love

Its chief Beloved chose,

And bid Him raise our wretched race
From their abyss of woes.

3 'Twas mercy filled the throne
And wrath stood silent by,

When Christ was sent with pardons down
To rebels doomed to die.

4 Now, sinners, dry your tears,
Let hopeless sorrows cease;
Bow to the sceptre of His love,
And take the offered peace.

5 Lord, we obey Thy call;
We lay a humble claim

To the salvation Thou hast brought,
And love and praise Thy name.

193 God, who is rich in mercy.—Eph. ii. 4

I

F

ATHER, how wide Thy glories shine!
How high Thy wonders rise!

Known through the earth by thousand signs
By thousand through the skies.

2 Those mighty orbs proclaim Thy power,
Their motions speak Thy skill,
And on the wings of every hour
We read Thy patience still.

3 But when we see Thy strange design
To save our rebel race,

Our souls adore with awe divine
Thy justice and Thy grace.

4 When sinners break the Father's laws,
The dying Son atones;

O the deep mysteries of His cross,
The triumph of His groans.

5 Now the full glories of the Lamb
Adorn the heavenly plains;
Bright cherubs learn Immanuel's name,
And try their choicest strains.

6 O may I bear some humble part
In that immortal song ;

Wonder and joy shall tune my heart,
And love command my tongue.

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST:

GENERAL PRAISE.

194 To Him be glory and dominion.-Rev. i. 6. We sing to Thee, Thou Son of God,

I

WE

Fountain of life and grace;

We praise Thee, Son of Man, whose blood
Redeemed our fallen race.

2 Thee we acknowledge God and Lord,
The Lamb for sinners slain;
Who art by heaven and earth adored,
Worthy o'er both to reign.

3 To Thee all angels cry aloud,
Through heaven's extended coasts;
Hail! holy, holy, holy Lord

Of Glory and of Hosts.

4 The cherubim and seraphim

Incessant sing to Thee;

The worlds and all the powers therein

Adore Thy majesty.

5 The prophets' goodly fellowship,

In radiant garments dressed,

Praise Thee, Thou Son of God, and reap
The fulness of Thy rest.

6 The apostles' glorious company
Thy righteous praise proclaim;
The martyred army glorify
Thine everlasting name.

7 Through all the world, Thy churches join
To call on Thee, their Head,
Brightness of Majesty Divine,
Who every power hast made.

8 Among their number, Lord, we love
To sing Thy precious blood.
Reign here, and in the worlds above,
Thou holy Lamb of God!

195 Unto Him that loved us-be glory-for ever.

Revelation i. 5, 6.

FOR a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer's praise,

The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace.

2 My gracious Master and my God,
Assist me to proclaim,

To spread through all the earth abroad
The honours of Thy name.

3 Jesus, the name that charms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease,

'Tis music in the sinner's ears,
'Tis life and health and peace.

4 He breaks the power of cancelled sin;
He sets the prisoner free ;

His blood can make the foulest clean;
His blood avails for me.
