1 FATHER, bless thy word to all;
Quick and powerful let it prove :
O, may sinners hear thy call;
Let thy people grow in love.
2 Thine own gracious message bless;
Follow it with power divine;
Give the gospel great success;
Thine the work, the glory thine.
3 Father, bid the world rejoice;
Send, O, send thy truth abroad;
Let the nations hear thy voice,-
Hear it, and return to God.

The Joy and Blessing of Worship.
1 LORD, how delightful 't is to see
A whole assembly worship thee;
At once they sing, at once they pray;
They hear of heaven and learn the way.
2 O, write upon my memory, Lord,

The text and doctrines of thy word;
That I may break thy laws no more,
But love thee better than before.

Ascription.

ANONYMOUS

1 GRACIOUS Source of every blessing! Guard our breasts from anxious fears ; Let us each, thy care possessing,

Sink into the vale of years.

2 All our hopes on thee reclining,
Peace companion of our way:
May our sun, in smiles declining,
Rise in everlasting day.

Close of Worship.

S. F. ADAMS.

1 PART in peace! is day before us?
Praise His name for life and light;
Are the shadows lengthening o'er us?
Bless His care who guards the night.
2 Part in peace! with deep thanksgiving,
Rendering, as we homeward tread,
Gracious service to the living,
Tranquil memory to the dead.

3 Part in peace! such are the praises
God, our Maker, loveth best;
Such the worship that upraises
Human hearts to heavenly rest.

Blessedness of the Pure in Heart.

1 BLEST are the pure in heart,
For they shall see our God;
The secret of the Lord is theirs ;
Their soul is his abode.

2 Still to the lowly soul

He doth himself impart,

And for his temple and his throne
Selects the pure in heart.

1 FATHER of mercies, God of love,
O, hear a humble suppliant's cry ;
Bend from thy lofty throne above,
Thy glorious throne of majesty.

2 O, deign to listen to my voice,

MASON.

COLLYER.

One pardoning word can make me whole,
Come, bid my drooping heart rejoice,
And soothe the anguish of my soul.

ADORATION, PRAISE, AND THANKS

GIVING.

7s. M. Adoration.

SALISBURY COLL

1 HOLY, holy, holy Lord!
Be thy glorious name adored!
Lord, thy mercies never fail ;
Hail, celestial goodness, hail!
2 Though unworthy, Lord, thine ear,
Deign our humble songs to hear;
Purer praise we hope to bring,
When around thy throne we sing.

3 There no tongue shall silent be;
All shall join in harmony;

That, through heaven's capacious round,
Praise to thee may ever sound.

4 Lord, thy mercies never fail ;
Hail, celestial goodness, hail!
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
Be thy glorious name adored!

Praise to the great Jehovah.

TATE & BRADY.

1 BE thou, O God, exalted high;

And, as thy glory fills the sky,
So let it be on earth displayed,
Till thou art here, as there, obeyed.
2 O God, my heart is fixed; 't is bent
Its thankful tribute to present;

And, with my heart, my voice I'll raise
To thee, my God, in songs of praise.
3 Thy praises, Lord, I will resound
To all the listening nations round;

51

Thy mercy highest heaven transcends;
Thy truth beyond the clouds extends.
4 Be thou, O God, exalted high;
And, as thy glory fills the sky,
So let it be on earth displayed,
Till thou art here, as there, obeyed.

God glorious.

GRANT.

1 O, WORSHIP the King, all glorious above, And gratefully sing his wonderful love,

Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise. 2 O, tell of his might, and sing of his grace,

Whose robe is the light, whose canopy, space; His chariots of wrath the deep thunder-clouds form, And dark is his path on the wings of the storm. 3 Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite ? It breathes in the air, it shines in the light, It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, And sweetly distils in the dew and the rain. 4 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,

In thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail; Thy mercies how tender! how firm to the end! Our Maker, Defender, Preserver, and Friend. 5 Father Almighty, how faithful thy love! While angels delight to hymn thee above, The humbler creation, though feeble their lays, With true adoration shall lisp to thy praise.

[blocks in formation]

1 O GOD, we praise thee, and confess
That thou the only Lord
And everlasting Father art,
By all the earth adored.

PATRICK.

2 To thee all angels cry aloud;
To thee the powers on high,
Both cherubim and seraphim,
Continually do cry, -

3 "O holy, holy, holy Lord,
Whom heavenly hosts obey,
The world is with the glory filled
Of thy majestic sway.

4 The apostles' glorious company,
And prophets crowned with light
With all the martyrs' noble host,
Thy constant praise recite.

5 The holy church throughout the world,
O Lord, confesses thee,
That thou eternal Father art,
Of boundless majesty.

Universal Praise.

1 YE boundless realms of joy,
Exalt your Maker's fame;
His praise your song employ
Above the starry frame;

TATE & BRADY.

Your voices raise, And seraphim,

Ye cherubim,

To sing his praise.

2 Thou moon, that rul'st the night,
And sun, that guid'st the day,
Ye glittering stars of light,

To him your homage pay;

His praise declare,

And clouds that move

Ye heavens above, In liquid air.

3 Let them adore the Lord,
And praise his holy name,
By whose almighty word
They all from nothing came;
