Hymn XLIII. Long Metre. [* or b]

C

The Prefence of God mortifying us to the World. OME, bleffed Lord, defcend and dwell By faith and love within our breast; Then fhall we know, and taste and feel Such joys as cannot be exprefs'd.

2 Come, fill our hearts with inward ftrength, Make our enlarged fouls poffefs,

And learn the height, and breadth, and length,
Of thy unmeasurable grace.

3 Could we but pierce the veil, and fee
The glories of th' eternal skies,
What little things these worlds would be,
How defpicable in our eyes!

4 Great all in all, eternal King!

Could we but view thy glorious face, Then all our powers fhould join to fing Thy boundlefs wifdom and thy grace. 5 Now to the God, whose power in heaven And earth, has works of wonder done, Be everlasting honours given,

By all the church, through Chrift his Son.

"Worthy the Lamb," our lips reply,
For he was flain for us."

3 Jefus is worthy to receive
Honour and power divine;

And bleffings, more than we can give,
Be, Lord, forever thine.

4 Let all that dwell above the sky,
And air, and earth, and feas,
Confpire to lift thy glories high,
And speak thine endless praise.
The whole creation join in one,

Hymn XLV. Common Metre. [*]

The Fogs of Heaven.

OME, Lord, and warm each languid heart,
Infpire each lifclefs tongue;

And let the joys of heaven impart
Their influence to our fong.
2 Sorrow and pain and every care,
And difcord there fhall ceafe;
And perfect joy and love fincere
Adorn the realms of peace.
3 The foul, from fin forever free,
Shall mourn its power no more;
But, cloth'd in fpotlefs purity,
Redeeming love adore.

4 There, on a throne, how dazzling bright
Th' exalted Saviour fhines,

And beams ineffable delight

On all the heavenly minds.

5 Thore fhall the foll'wers of the Lamb
Join in immortal fongs;

And endless bonours to his name
Employ their tuneful tongues.

6 Lord, tune our hearts to praise and love,
Our feeble notes inspire;
Till, in thy blissful courts above,

We join th' angelic choir.

HOME, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known;
Join in a fong with sweet accord,
And thus furround.the throne.

2 Let thofe refufe to fing,
Who never knew our God;
But children of the heavenly King
May speak their joys abroad.
3 This heavenly King is ours,
Our Father and our Love ;
He will fend down his heavenly powers,
To raise our fouls above.

4 There, we fhall fee his face,
And never, never sin ;
There, from the rivers of his grace,
Drink endless pleasures in.
5 Yes, and before we rife

To that immortal state,
The thought of fuch amazing bliss
Should conftant joys create.

6 Then let our fongs abound,
And every tear be dry!

We're marching through Emanuel's ground, To fairer worlds on high.

Chrift the King of Saints.

OME, ye that love the Saviour's name,
And joy to make it known;

The Sovereign of your heart proclaim,
And bow before his throne.

2 Behold your King, your Saviour, crown'
With glories all divine;

And tell the wond'ring nations round,
How bright thefe glories fhine.

rays;

You that his heavenly influence prove,
Can you forbear his praise?
4 When in his earthly courts we view
The glories of our King,
We long to love as angels do,
And with like them to fing.

5 And fhall we long and wifh in vain ?
Lord, teach our fongs to rife;
Thy love can animate the ftrain,
And bid it reach the fkies.

6 O happy period! glorious day!
When heaven and earth fhall raife,
With all their powers, the raptur'd lay,
To celebrate thy praise.
