31.

ET us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord.

Another year, another year

Lam. iii. 40.

Has sped its flight on silent wing;
And all that mark'd its brief career
Has pass'd from mortal reckoning.

For all Thy grace and patient love,
Exhaustless still, and still the same,
For all our hopes of joy above,

We laud and bless Thy Holy Name.

Still bear with us and bless us still,

And while in this dark world we stay,

O let us love Thy holy will,

O let us keep Thy narrow way!

So when the rolling stream of time
Has open'd to a boundless sea,
Loud will we raise that song sublime,
All honour, glory, power to Thee.

Appendix.

F we be dead with Him, we shall also live with Him: if we suffer, we shall also reign with Him. 2 Tim. ii. II, 12.

Jesu, Thy blessed brow is torn

In mockery by that crown of thorn:

Thy feet and outstretch'd hands I see,
Fast nail'd to the accursed tree.

EASTER DAY.-ASCENSION DAY.

Jesu, the King of Glory Thou,
Oh, turn on me that bleeding brow;

Hide me within Thy wounded side,
And let me ever there abide.

Easter Day.

WHY seek ye the living among the

dead?

St. Luke xxiv. 5.

No longer must the mourners weep,
Nor call departed Christians dead;

For death is hallow'd into sleep,

And every grave becomes a bed.
Now once more

Eden's door

Open stands to mortal eyes;

For Christ hath risen, and men shall rise:
Now at last,

Old things past,

Hope and joy and peace begin;

For Christ hath won, and man shall win.

Ascension Day.

BEHOLD, one like the Son of

man

came with the clouds of heaven, and

came to the Ancient of days.

Dan. vii. 13.

See the Conqueror mounts in triumph, see the King in

royal state,

Riding on the clouds His chariot, to His heavenly

palace gate;

Hark, the quires of Angel voices joyful Hallelujahs sing, And the portals high are lifted, to receive their heavenly

King.

Thou hast raised our human nature in the clouds to God's right hand,

There we sit in heavenly places, there with Thee in glory stand;

Jesus reigns, adored by Angels; Man with God is on the throne;

Mighty Lord, in Thine Ascension, we by faith behold

our own.

Whit-Sunday.

S many as are led by the Spirit of
God, they are the sons of God.

Rom. viii. 14.

Come, O Holy Ghost! inspire
Hallow'd thought and pure desire,
With Thy bright celestial fire.

Come, Thou Father of the poor!
Come with gifts which aye endure;
Light of those whose hearts are pure.

Kind Consoler! ever blest

Is the heart where Thou art guest,
Thou who giv'st the weary rest.
