Nor will thy watchful Monarch cease
To guard thee in eternal peace.

[blocks in formation]

"GIVE us room, that we may dwell," Zion's children cry aloud:

See their numbers-how they swell! How they gather like a cloud! 2 Oh how bright the morning seems! Brighter from so dark a night: Zion is like one that dreams, Filled with wonder and delight. 3 Lo! thy sun goes down no more, God himself will be thy light: All that caused thee grief before, Buried, lies in endless night.

4 Zion, now arise and shine!

Lo! thy light from heaven is come! These that crowd from far are thine; Give thy sons and daughters room. 8s, 7s & 4.

YES! we trust the day is breaking;
Joyful times are near at hand;
God-the mighty God, is speaking
By his word, in every land;
When he chooses,

Darkness flies at his command.

2 While the foe becomes more daring,
While he enters like a flood,
God, the Saviour, is preparing
Means to spread his truth abroad:
Every language

Soon shall tell the love of God.

3 Oh! 'tis pleasant-'tis reviving
To our hearts to hear, each day,
Joyful news from far arriving,
How the gospel wins its way;
Those enlightening,

Who in death and darkness lay.

4 God of Jacob, high and glorious,
Let thy people see thy hand;
Let the gospel be victorious,
Through the world-in every land;
Then shall idols

Perish, Lord—at thy command.

Consecration to the Service of Christ.

WITH my substance I will honor
My Redeemer and my Lord;
Were ten thousand worlds my manor,
All were nothing to his word.

2 While the heralds of salvation

His abounding grace proclaim, Let his friends, of every station, Gladly join to spread his fame. s May his kingdom be promoted; May the world the Saviour know; Be my all to him devoted;

To my Lord my all I owe.

4 Praise the Saviour, all ye nations;
Praise him, all ye hosts above;
Shout with joyful acclamations,
His divine-victorious love.

Departure of Missionaries.

ROLL on, thou mighty ocean!
And, as thy billows flow,
Bear messengers of mercy
To every land below.
Arise, ye gales! and waft them
Safe to the destined shore;
That man may sit in darkness,
And death's black shade, no more.

2 O thou eternal Ruler!

371

Who holdest in thine arm
The tempests of the ocean,
Protect them from all harm!
Thy presence e'er be with them,
Wherever they may be,

Though far from us who love them-
Still let them be with thee!

YE messengers of Christ,

His sovereign voice obey;
Arise, and follow where he leads,
And peace attend your way!
2 The Master whom you serve
Will needful strength bestow;
Depending on his promised aid,
With sacred courage-go.
3 Go, spread the Saviour's fame;
Go, tell his matchless grace;
Proclaim salvation, full and free,
To Adam's guilty race.

4 Mountains shall sink to plains,
And hell in vain oppose;

The cause is God's-and will prevail
In spite of all his foes.

Departure of Missionaries.

YE Christian heralds, go, proclaim Salvation in Immanuel's name; To distant climes the tidings bear, And plant the rose of Sharon there. 2 He'll shield you with a wall of fireWith holy zeal your hearts inspire; Bid raging winds their fury cease, And calm the savage breast to peace. 3 And when our labors all are o'er, Then shall we meet to part no more; Meet-with the blood-bought throng to fall, And crown our Jesus-Lord of all.

Subjection of the Nations to Christ prayed for.
WHEN shall the voice of singing
Flow joyfully along?

When hill and valley, ringing

With one triumphant song,
Proclaim the contest ended,
And HIM, who once was slain,
Again to earth descended,
In righteousness to reign?
2 Then from the craggy mountains
The sacred shout shall fly;
And shady vales and fountains
Shall echo the reply.

High tower and lowly dwelling
Shall send the chorus round,

All hallelujah swelling,

In one eternal sound!

Love and Devotion to the Church.

I LOVE thy kingdom, Lord,

The house of thine abode,

The church our blest Redeemer saved
With his own precious blood.

2 I love thy church, O God!

Her walls before thee stand,
Dear as the apple of thine eye,
And graven on thy hand.
3 For her my tears shall fall;
For her my prayers ascend;
To her my cares and toils be given,
Till toils and cares shall end.

4 Beyond my highest joy

I prize her heavenly ways,

Her sweet communion-solemn vows,
Her hymns of love and praise.

5 Jesus, thou friend divine,

Our Saviour, and our King,
Thy hand from every snare and foe,
Shall great deliverance bring.

6 Sure as thy truth shall last,
To Zion shall be given

The brightest glories earth can yield,
And brighter bliss of heaven.

Universal Reign of Christ.

HASTEN, Lord, the glorious time,
When, beneath Messiah's sway,

Every nation, every clime,

Shall the gospel call obey.
