Jesus, look with pitying eye;
Hear thy people when they cry.
S By thy deep expiring groan,
By thy sealed sepulchral stone,
By thy triumphs o'er the grave,
By thy power from death to save,
Mighty God, ascended Lord,
To thy throne in heaven restored,
Saviour, Prince, exalted high,
Hear thy people when they cry.

131 Christ's unchangeable Love. Rom. viii. 33, &c. L.M 1 WHO shall the Lord's elect condemn?

And mercy, like a mighty stream,
O'er all their sins divinely rolls.

2 Who shall adjudge the saints to hell?
"Tis Christ that suffered in their stead;
And, the salvation to fulfill,

Behold him rising from the dead!
3 He lives, he lives, and sits above,
For ever interceding there:
Who shall divide us from his love,
Or what shall tempt us to despair?
4 Shall persecution or distress,

Famine, or sword, or nakedness?
He that hath loved us bears us through,
And makes us more than conquerors too.
5 Faith hath an overcoming power,
It triumphs in the dying hour:
Christ is our life, our joy, our hope;
Nor can we sink with such a prop.

6 Not all that men on earth can do,
Nor powers on high, nor powers below,
Shall cause his mercy to remove.

Or wean our hearts from Christ our love.

132 Christ our Righteousness. Phil. iii. 9.
1 JESUS, thy blood and righteousness
My beauty are, my glorious dress :
'Midst flaming worlds, in these arrayed,
With joy shall I lift up my head.

Watts.

L.M.

2 Bold shall I stand in that great day,
For who aught to my charge shall lay,
While, through thy blood, absolved I am
From sin's tremendous curse and shame ?
3 When from the dust of death I rise,
To take my mansion in the skies,
E'en then shall this be all my plea.

"Jesus hath lived and died for me." J. Wesley.

Praise for Salvation.

ARISE, my soul, my joyful powers,

triumph in my God;

Awake, my voice, and loud proclaim
His glorious grace abroad.

2 He raised me from the deeps of sin,
The gates of gaping hell,
And fixed my standing more secure
Than 'twas before I fell.

3 The arms of everlasting love
Beneath my soul he placed,
And on the Rock of ages set
My slippery footsteps fast.
4 The city of my bless'd abode
Is walled around with grace;
Salvation for a bulwark stands
To shield the sacred place.
5 Satan may vent his sharpest spite,
And all his legions roar;
Almighty mercy guards my life,
And bounds his raging power.

6 Arise, my soul, awake my voice,
And tunes of pleasure sing;
Loud hallelujahs shall address
My Saviour and my King.

Christ the Refuge.

JESUS, lover of my soul,
Let me to thy bosom fly,
While the raging billows roll
While the tempest still is high;
Hide me, O my Saviour, hide,
Till the storm of life be past;
Safe into the haven guide;
Oh receive my soul at last.

C. M.

Watts.

2 Other refuge have I none

Hangs my helpless soul on thee;
Leave, ah, leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me;
All my trust on thee is stayed,
All my help from thee I bring;
Cover my defenceless head

With the shadow of thy wing.

3 Thou, O Christ, art all I want;
More than all in thee I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
Heal the sick and lead the blind :
Just and holy is thy name,

I am all unrighteousness;
Vile and full of sin I am,

Thou art full of truth and grace.
4 Plenteous grace with thee is found-
Grace to pardon all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound,
Make and keep me pure within;
Thou of life the fountain art,
Freely let me take of thee:
Spring thou up within my heart,
Rise to all eternity.

1 IT

Excellence of Christ.

NFINITE excellence is thine, Thou lovely Prince of grace; Thy uncreated beauties shine With never fading rays.

2 Sinners, from earth's remotest end, Come bending at thy feet;

C. Wesley.

To thee their prayers and praise ascend,
In thee their wishes meet.

3 Millions of happy spirits live

On thy exhaustless store;

From thee they all their bliss receive,
And still thou givest more.

4 Thou art their triumph and their joy;
They find their all in thee;
Thy glories will their tongues employ
Through all eternity.

Sinners directed to Calvary. EARY souls that wander wide From the central point of bliss, Turn to Jesus crucified,

WEA

Fly to those dear wounds of his ;
Sink into the purple flood
Rise into the life of God.

;

2 Oh believe the record true,

God to you his Son hath given;
Ye may now be happy too-
Find on earth the life of heaven,
Live the life of heaven above,
All the life of glorious love.

Healing Mercy Implored.

1 HEAL us, Immanuel, here we are,
Waiting to feel thy touch;

Deep wounded souls to thee repair,
And, Saviour, we are such.

2 Remember him who once applied,
With trembling, for relief;

"Lord, I believe," with tears he cried, "Oh help my unbelief."

C. Wesley.

3 She too, who touched thee in the press,
And healing virtue stole,

Was answered, "Daughter, go in
Thy faith hath made thee whole."

peace,

4 Like her, with hopes and fears we come,
To touch thee if we may;

Oh send us not despairing home,
Send none unhealed away.

138

Union with Christ.

1 DEAR Saviour, we are thine

By everlasting bands:

Our names, our hearts, we would resign;
Our souls are in thy hands.

2 To thee we still would cleave

With ever growing zeal;

If millions tempt us Christ to leave,
Oh let them ne'er prevail.

C. M.

3 Thy Spirit shall unite

Our souls to thee our head;
Shall form us to thy image bright,
That we thy paths may tread.
4 Death may our souls divide
From these abodes of clay;
But love shall keep us near thy side,
Through all the gloomy way.

5 Since Christ and we are one,
Why should we doubt or fear?
Since he in heaven hath fixed his throne,
He'll bring his people there.

Doddridge.

139 Christ the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
1 THOU art the Way-to thee alone
From sin and death we flee;

And he who would the Father seek,,
Must seek him, Lord, in thee.
2 Thou art the Truth-thy word alone
True wisdom can impart ;

Thou only canst instruct the mind,
And purify the heart.

3 Thou art the Life-the rending tomb
Proclaims thy conquering arm;

And those who put their trust in thee
Nor death nor hell shall harm.

The Offices of Christ.

E bless the Prophet of the Lord,
Who comes with truth and grace;

Jesus, thy Spirit and thy word

Shall lead us in thy ways.

2 We rev'rence our High Priest above,
Who offered up his blood,
And lives to carry on his love
By pleading with our God.

3 We honor our exalted King;

How sweet are his commands!

He guards our souls from hell and sin,
By his almighty hards.

Hosanna to his gloricus name,

Who saves by different ways:
