GENERAL LAWS. CHAPTER 1. [Published January 21, 1865.] AN ACT to change the name of the Mutual life insurance company AN ACT to authorize the common council of the city of La Crosse to make an appropriation to pay bounties to volunteers, and to levy and collect a tax for that purpose. SECTION 2. The common council of the city of La tion of bounty Crosse is hereby authorized and empowered to levy a tax upon the taxable property in said city, at the time of levying the annual taxes for general city purposes in said city, in addition to the amount now authorized by the charter of said city to be levied for general city purposes, for the purpose of raising such an amount as may be appropriated by said common council under and by virtue of the provisions of this act, which said tax shall be levied and collected in the same manner that other taxes are levied and collected in said city by law. Bepeal. SECTION 3. All acts and parts of acts contravening the provisions of this act, are, for the purposes of this act only, hereby repealed. SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage. Approved January 23, 1865. Supervisors may appropriate lies of teers, &c. CHAPTER 3. [Published January 27, 1865.] AN ACT to authorize the supervisors of the town of Manitowoc Rapids, in the county of Manitowoc, to appropriate moneys to the benefit of families of men in the U. S. service. The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows: SECTION 1. That the supervisors of the town of money to fami- Manitowoc Rapids, in the county of Manitowoc, be and they hereby are authorized and required to appropriate the moneys now in or which may hereafter come into the treasury of said town, from the special tax ordered to be levied and collected by the citizens of said town, on the twenty-ninth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-four, to the benefit of the families of volunteers, of drafted men, and of men who have furnished substitutes which [who] have been accepted into the United States service, and been credited on the quota of said town, in such way and manner as was directed by vote of the citizens of said town at a special meeting held on the 10th day of October, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-four. eys appropriated. [Published January 27, 1865.] AN ACT to legalize the acts of a special town meeting held on the seventh day of January, A. D. 1865, in the town of Pulaski, Iowa county, Wisconsin, and authorizing the collection, forthwith, of the tax voted at such meeting. D. 1865, for the purpose of raising a special tax to pay bounties to volunteers into the military service of the United States, is hereby declared legal and valid for all the intents and purposes for which the same was held; and all acts done in pursuance of the vote or votes of said meeting, by the officers of said town, or any of them, are hereby declared valid, the same as if the law had been fully complied with in conducting said meeting. legalized. SECTION 2. All acts of the officers of said town, or Acts of officers either of them, in proceeding to the immediate collection of said tax, are hereby legalized and declared SECTION 3. AN ACT to authorize the town of Lebanon, in Dodge county, to collect a tax to pay bounties to volunteers.,. The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in sen- ate and assembly, do enact as follows: SECTION 1. The town officers of the town of Leb- anon, in Dodge county, are hereby authorized to levy and collect upon the last assessment roll of said town, the amount of tax voted by the electors of said town, at a town meeting held in said town on the 9th day of SECTION 2.
