THE MARTYR OF ADRIANOPLE.

THE year 1855 must be strongly marked in the coming history of Turkey. That empire is now brought into new relations with the first Christian power in the world; and this power, Great Britain, cannot possibly regard the interests of Christianity in Turkey with indifference. The religion of our blessed Saviour has made us what we are, a prosperous and mighty nation. The delusion of Mohammed has left the Turks in as low a state of barbarism as they were in when it found them in their deserts, and Christian arms are necessary now to save the Ottoman empire from being blotted out from the face of the earth. Good reasons of national VOL. I.-Second Series.-JANUARY, 1855.
