THANKSGIVING

THE act of thanksgiving is a renewer of faith. Gratitude is one of the surest paths to religion. The instant one says, "I thank", he must complete the sentence with the name of someone to whom he acknowledges his indebtedness. One cannot feel thankful without sending one's mind up to search for the Giver of good. Our gratitude may begin in a hazy sense of happiness beyond our deserving; if we let it express itself, it will mount out of the haze and carry us to the clear atmosphere where we see God's face looking lovingly on us, and it will leave us saying, "I thank Thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth". The act of thanksgiving assures the recovery of God. When we begin to number our blessings, we shall find ourselves ere long including the Blesser, and we shall end by losing sight of all the gifts, however good, and thanking God for Himself-our Portion forever. It is because the men of the Bible thank God so constantly that they are so invariably sure of Him, and so completely possess Him and are possessed by Him.
