are ashamed, O Almighty Father, of the unworthy returns which Thy love has received. We have ill requited Thy benefits; ill improved the offers of Thy grace, and the infinite compassions of Thy Son. God, be merciful to us, sinners! make us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us; that we, worthily lamenting our sins, and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of Thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness, through Jesus Christ.

Other lords beside Thee have had dominion over us; but henceforth, O God, we would be Thine alone. Accept us, unworthy as we are, for the sake of Thy dear Son, who has said, "Him that cometh to Me, I will in no wise cast out."

O Thou gracious God, be about our bed as Thou hast been about our path. Let no evil befall us; give us comfortable rest in sleep, and renew Thy mercies to us with the morning light, for the sake of Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Saviour. Amen.

TUESDAY MORNING.

Through all the dangers of the night,
Preserved, O Lord, by Thee,
Again we hail the cheerful light,
Again we bow the knee.

Preserve us, Lord, throughout the day,
And guide us by Thine arm;
For they are safe, and only they
Whom Thou preserv'st from harm.

Let all our words, and all our ways,
Declare that we are Thine,
That so the light of truth and grace
Before the world may shine.

Let us ne'er turn away from Thee;
O Saviour, hold us fast,

Till with unclouded eyes we see
Thy glorious face at last.

Tuesday Morning.

The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, and forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin.—Ex. xxxiv. 6, 7.

Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not.-Jer. xxxiii. 3.

If ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in Heaven give good things to them that ask Him.-St. Matt. vii. 11.

Likewise also the Spirit helpeth our infirmities;

for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.-Rom. viii. 26.

Thou that dwellest in the Heavens. O Take us into Thy protection, bodily and spiritually. We are ignorant, let Thy Spirit

teach us: we are guilty, let us obtain pardon through the blood of Thy Son: we are wandering sheep, let Thy love lead us to the Saviour's fold: we are in danger from enemies who lie in wait for our souls: what then is our hope? Truly our hope is even in Thee. Hold Thou up our goings in Thy paths, that our footsteps slip not; and hide us under the shadow of Thy wings. Leave us not, neither forsake us, O God of our salvation.

We are entering upon another day, and know not what it may bring forth; graciously enable us to remember that in the midst of life we are in death. Let us not be hindered from walking with our lamps lighted, and our loins girded, like unto those that wait for their Lord's coming. O send Thy Holy Spirit into our hearts, that it may be Christ to us to live; and then, come the message for our souls when it may, it will be gain to die.

Almighty God, who hast promised to
