He shall reign, when, like a scroll,
God in Christ, is all in all. 549.
Prayer for Zion.
And wilt thou bow thy gracious ear?
Wilt thou, the great Jehovah, hear!
Till Zion's mouldering walls thou raise ?
And make Jerusalem a praise ?
And view the desolations round;
What scenes of wo and crime abound! 4 Loud let the gospel-trumpet blow,
And call the nations from afar;
And earth's remotest ends draw near. 550.
Prayer for the Reign of Christ.
Rise and assert thy sway;
And distant lands obey.
Till all thy foes submit;
Their trophies at thy feet.
This spacious earth around;
Shall hear the joyful sound.
And earth, with all her millions, shout,-
75 and 6s. 551.
The State of the Heathen.
From India's coral strand,
Roll down their golden sand;
From many a palmy plain,
Their land from erior's chain.
Blow soft o'er Ceylon's isle,-
And only man is vile ? -
The gifts of God are strown;
Bows down to wood and stone.
With wisdom from on high
The lamp of life deny?
The joyful sound proclaim,
Has learned Messiah's naine.
And you, ye waters! rollo
It spreads from pole to pole;
The Lamb for sinners slain,
L. M. 552.
Put on thy robes of beauteous hue;
2 Church of our God! arise and shine,
Bright with the beams of truth divine:
Wide as the heathen nations are. 3 Gentiles and kings thy light shall view;
All shall admire and love thee too ;-
Or doves that to their windows fly. 553.
Prayer for Missionaries.
Are by creation thine;
Thy radiant glories shine.
Thy gospel to our race;
Of rich redeeming grace.
The spacious earth around,
Shall hear the joyful sound.
Shall Afric learn thy word,
The freemen of the Lord. 5 When shall the scattered wanderers meet,
That now in darkness rove,
Sing of his saving love?
To spread the gospel-rays;
The temples of thy praise. 554.
The wondrous things foretold
With joy our eyes behold;
Still doth thine arm new trophies wear,
And monuments of glory rcar. 2 Oh! haste, victorious Prince!
That glorious happy day,
Shall own thy gentle sway:
And bear our shouts beyond the skies. 3 All hail ! triumphant Lord !
Eternal be thy reign;
To wear thy gentle chain :
Thy throne shall stand for ever sure. 555.
Triumph of the Gospel.
Put on thy strength-the nations shake,
Triumphs of mercy wrought by thee.
“I'am Jehovah God alone!"
And cast their altars to the ground. 3 Almighty God! thy grace proclaim,
In every land of every name;
Oh! bring the tribes of Israel home. 4 Arm of the Lord ! awake, awake!
Put on thy strength--the nations shake;
8s, 7s and 4. 556.
The Day-Spring 1 CHRISTIAN ! see the orient morning
Breaks along the heathen sky;
Glorious day-spring from on high :
Hail the day-spring from on high !
2 Heathen at the sight are singing;
Morning wakes the tuneful lays ;
First-fruits of more perfect praise :
Hail the day-spring from on high! 3 Zion's Sun!-salvation beaming,
Gilding now the radiant hills,
All the world thy glory fills :
Hail the day-spring from on high! 4 Lord of every tribe and nation!
Spread thy truth from pole to pole;
Till it shine on every soul:
Hail the day-spring from on high ! 557.
Christ's Coming to reign.
For thine expected coming waits:
And glory beam or Zion's gates ?
And wintry clouds o'ercast the sky,
Ănd deem that our redemption 's nigh. 3 Oh! come and reign o'er every land ;
Let Satan from his throne be hurled, All nations bow to thy command,
And grace revive a dying world.
To wait for thine appointed hour;
The triumphs of thy conquering power. 558.
