THE READING BOOKS OF

CONSTABLE'S EDUCATIONAL SERIES will be found adapted to the various Standards of the Code, though

more comprehensive in their aim,

The object of this SERIES is to train and instruct the Moral and Intellectual Faculties of Children, as well as to interest and attract them. The ReadingBooks combine careful graduation in language and subject, with a Scheme of Lessons purposely devised to instruct the conscience, extend the knowledge, and discipline the understanding of the Pupil, while the free introduction of Prose and Poetical Lessons, addressed to the imagination of the young, lightens the work of both Teacher and Scholar. A careful study of the Series will show that there is a graduated scheme of moral and intellectual teaching running through the whole series of six books (corresponding to the Six Standards),-interesting and umusing narratives being largely intermixed.

THE FIRST ENGLISH READING-BOOK. IN THREE PARTS.

Price 2d., 4d., and 6d. The consideration to which every other has been subordinated in the First Book is, the Teaching of Reading. For this purpose graduation has been carried as far as it has been possible to carry it; but though each lesson is essentially an exercise on words, connexion and interest have been successfully aimed at.

THE SECOND ENGLISH READING-BOOK. Price 9d.

Though the interesting, attractive, and imaginative continue to predominate in the Second Book, as in the first, lessons on moral and intellectual subjects are given in fair proportion. The heads of the classifications of the Lessons are:-1. Objects and Lessons on General Information; 2. Lessons relating to the Religious and Moral Feelings, the Imagination, and the Character; 3. Verses, Instructive, Amusing, Religious, and Imaginative.

THE THIRD ENGLISH READING-BOOK. Price 18. 3d.

The conveying of knowledge, and the training of the intellect and moral nature, continue to receive full attention; but they are kept in due subordination to the imaginative element. A Life of Christ, simply and impressively written, forms a feature of this volume. The Book is divi
