JUDICIAL CIRCUITS.

AN ACT to divide the State of Illinois, exclusive of the county of Cook, into judicial circuits. [Approved June 2, 1877. In force July 1, 1877. Laws 1877, P. 73.] *72. Circuits. SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That in lieu of the circuit courts provided for in section thirteen (13) of article six (6) of the constitution, and now existing, the State of Illinois, exclusive of the county of Cook, be and the same is hereby divided into judicial circuits as follows: [People v. First Circuit-The counties of Franklin, Saline, Williamson, Jackson, Union, Johnson, Pope, Hardin, Massac, Pulaski and Alexander.

Second Circuit-The counties of Cumberland, Effingham, Clay, Jasper, Richland, Lawrence, Crawford, Jefferson, Wayne, Edwards, Wabash, White, Hamilton and Gallatin.

Third Circuit-The counties of Bond, Madison, St. Clair, Marion, Clinton, Washington, Randolph, Monroe and Perry.

Fourth Circuit-The counties of Vermilion, Edgar, Clark, Coles, Douglas, Champaign, Piatt, Moultrie and Macon.

Fifth Circuit-The counties of Sangamon, Macoupin, Christian, Montgomery, Fayette and Shelby.

Sixth Circuit-The counties of Hancock, Adams, Fulton, McDonough, Schuyler, Brown and Pike.

Seventh Circuit-The counties of De Witt, Logan, Menard, Mason, Cass, Morgan, Scott, Greene, Jersey and Calhoun.

Eighth Circuit-The counties of Putnam, Marshall, Woodford, Tazewell, Peoria and Stark.

Ninth Circuit-The counties of Bureau, LaSalle, Will and Grundy. Tenth Circuit-The counties of Rock Island, Mercer, Henry, Henderson, Warren and Knox.

Eleventh Circuit-The counties of McLean, Ford, Kankakee, Iroquois and Livingston.

Twelfth Circuit-The counties of Boone, DeKalb, McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage and Kendall.

Thirteenth Circuit-The counties of JoDaviess, Stephenson, Winnebago, Carroll, Whiteside, Ogle and Lee.

*73. Election of additional judges. § 2. The present judges of the circuit court shall be judges for the respective circuits in which

they may reside. And on the first Monday in August, in the year of our Lord, 1877, there shall be elected in each of the said circuits hereby created, by the electors thereof, one additional circuit judge, making the number of judges in each of said circuits three. The notices for said election, the manner of holding and conducting the same and canvassing the votes cast shall be as provided in an act entitled " An act in regard to elections, and to provide for filling vacancies in elective offices," approved April 3, 1872; Provided, that the terms of office of the judges elected under this act, on the first Monday of August, 1877, shall expire on the first Monday of August, 1879.

*74. Manner of holding court-assignment of judges. 3. The judges of the several circuits shall hold the circuit courts in their circuits, in such a manner as to best dispose of the business thereof, as they may arrange among themselves; and in case such judges are unable to agree as to the manner of holding their courts, and as to the counties in which they are severally to preside, then they shall refer the matter to the chief justice of the supreme court, who shall assign said judges to such counties in their circuits, respectively, as he may determine; and the chief justice of the State may assign any of said judges of the circuit court, when they are not occupied in holding court in their own circuits, to hold court in any other circuit of the State where there may arise a necessity therefor.

*75. Election of judges. § 4. On the first Monday of June, 1879, there shall be elected in each of said circuits, by the electors thereof, by general ticket, three judges of the circuit court, whose terms of office shall be six years; and every six years thereafter there shall in like manner be elected in each of said circuits three judges of the circuit Court, whose terms of office shall be as aforesaid. *76. Repeal. § 5. That all acts or parts of acts inconsistent with this act are hereby repealed.

TERMS OF COURTS OF COOK COUNTY. AN ACT to fix the terms of the courts of Cook county. [Approved February 9, 1874. In force July 1, 1874.]

77. Circuit, superior and criminal. SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the terms of the circuit court of Cook county shall commence on the third Monday of every month. That the terms of the superior court of Cook county shall commence on the first Monday of every month. That the terms of the criminal court of Cook county shall commence on the first Monday of every month.

AN ACT concerning circuit courts, and to fix the time for holding the same, in the several counties in the judicial circuits in the State of Illinois, exclusive of the county of Cook. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That hereafter the times for holding the circuit courts in the several counties composing the various judicial circuits in the State of Illinois, exclusive of the county of Cook, as said circuits have been defined by a law of the general assembly, approved June 2, 1877, be as follows:

First Circuit-In the county of UNION, on the first Monday of March and first Monday of September; in the county of JACKSON, on the fourth Monday of March and second Monday of August, and second Monday of December: in the county of WILLIAMSON, on the first Monday of April and the second Monday of October; in the county of FRANKLIN, on the fourth Mondays of April and October; in the county of SALINE, on the second Mondays of March and September: in the

county of ALEXANDER, on the second Monday of February, and second Monday of May, and third Monday of September, and second Monday of July. Provided, the term to be held on the second Monday of July in ALEXANDER County shall be held exclusively for criminal business; in the county of PULASKI, on the third Monday of January and July; in the county of Porɛ, on the first Monday of May and the second Monday of October; in the county of MASSAC, on the third Monday of April and third Monday of November; in the county of HARDIN, on the first Mondays of April and fourth Monday of October; in the county of JOHNSON, on the first Mondays of April and November. In the county of MACOUPIN on the third Monday in February and first Monday in June and third Monday in September. In the county of CHRISTIAN on the first Monday in March, last Monday in June, first Monday in August and third Monday in November: Provided, that the said June term shall be devoted exclusively to the trial of chancery causes, and the trial or transaction of any business in criminal and civil cases not requiring a jury, and no jury shall be impaneled for said June term. In the county of FAYETTE on the third Tuesday after the first Tuesday in February and the fourth Tuesday after the third Tuesday in August. 7. Sixth Circuit. In the county of McDoNOUGH on the first Tuesday of February, the second Tuesday of May and the second Tuesday of September: Provided, that the May term shall be devoted exclusively to the trial of chancery causes, and to the trial or transaction of any business in civil and criminal cases not requiring a jury, and no jury shall be impaneled for said May term. In the county of BROWN on the fourth Tuesday in February and the first Tuesday in October. In the county of FULTON on the second Tuesday of March, the third Tuesday of August and the first Tuesday of December. Provided, that the March term shall be devoted exclusively to the trial of chancery cases, and the trial or transaction of any business in civil and criminal causes not requiring a jury, and no grand or petit jury shall be impaneled for said March term. In the county of PIKE on the first Tuesday of April and the first Tuesday of November. In the county of SCHUYLER on the fourth Tuesday in April and the third Tuesday in October.
