Birthday Anniversary.

Thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee.-DEUT. 8. 2.

WHEN all Thy mercies, O my God,
My rising soul surveys,
Transported with the view, I'm lost
In wonder, love, and praise.
Unnumber'd comforts to my soul
Thy tender care bestow'd,
Before my infant heart conceived
From whom these comforts flow'd.

When worn with sickness, oft hast Thou
With health renew'd my face;
And, when in sins and sorrows sunk,
Revived soul with grace.

my

Ten thousand thousand precious gifts
My daily thanks employ;

Nor is the least a cheerful heart,
That tastes those gifts with joy.

Through every period of my life
Thy goodness I'll pursue;
And after death, in distant worlds,
The glorious theme renew.

Through all eternity to Thee
A joyful song I'll raise;

For oh! eternity's too short

To utter all Thy praise.

Joseph Addison.

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we Thine unworthy servants do give Thee most humble and hearty thanks for all Thy goodness and loving-kindness to us, and to all men. We bless Thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all, for Thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech Thee, give us that due sense of all Thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful, and that we show forth Thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives; by giving up ourselves to Thy service, and by walking before Thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to Whom with Thee and the Holy Ghost be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.

Jesus was called to the marriage.—ST. JOHN 2. 2.

FATHER all creating,

Whose wisdom, love, and power,

First bound two lives together
In Eden's primal hour,
To-day to these thy children
Thine earliest gifts renew-
A home by Thee made happy,
A love by Thee kept true.
O Saviour, Guest most bounteous
Of old in Galilee,

Vouchsafe to-day Thy presence
With those who call on Thee;
Their store of earthly gladness
Transform to heavenly wine,
And teach them in the tasting
To know the gift is Thine.
O Spirit of the Father,

Breathe on them from above,
So mighty in Thy pureness,
So tender in Thy love;
That, guarded by Thy presence,
From sin and strife kept free,
Their lives may own Thy guidance,
Their hearts be ruled by Thee.
Except Thou build it, Father,
The house is built in vain ;
Except Thou, Saviour, bless it,
The joy will turn to pain;
But nought can break the union
Of hearts in Thee made one,
And love Thy Spirit hallows
Is endless love begun.

7. Ellerton.

O God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, bless Thy servants, and sow the seed of eternal life in their hearts; that whatsoever in Thy Holy Word they shall profitably learn, they may in deed fulfil the same. Look, O Lord, mercifully upon them from heaven, and bless them. And as Thou didst send Thy blessing upon Abraham and Sarah, to their great comfort, so vouchsafe to send Thy blessing upon these Thy servants; that they obeying Thy will, and alway being in safety under Thy protection, may abide in Thy love unto their lives' end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Absent Ones.

God said: I will keep thee in all places whither thou goest.-GEN. 28. 15.

The Lord is thy Keeper. from all evil.-Ps. 121. 5, 7.

He shall preserve thee

OLY Father, in Thy mercy,

HOLY

Hear our anxious prayer;

Keep our loved ones, now far absent,
'Neath Thy care.

Jesus, Saviour, let Thy presence
Be their light and guide;

Keep, O keep them, in their weakness,
At Thy side.

When in sorrow, when in danger,
When in loneliness,

In Thy love look down and comfort
Their distress.

May the joy of Thy salvation

Be their strength and stay;

May they love, and may they praise Thee,
Day by day.

Holy Spirit, let Thy teaching

Sanctify their life;

Send Thy grace, that they may conquer

In the strife.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

God, the One in Three,

Bless them, guide them, save them, keep them

Near to Thee.

I. S. Stephenson.

O God of Bethel, Who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea, we ask Thee to look with mercy upon our loved ones now far absent. Bless and preserve all who travel by land or by water [especially those near and dear to us]. Protect and comfort them in the hour of danger. Provide for their needs, and be their strength. Compass the path they tread with Thy love, and give Thy angels charge over them both by day and by night. Go where they go, abide where they abide, and grant them Thy peace. Keep them from all evil, and help them always to remember Thy great goodness. So shall praise and prayer rise to Thee from both land and sea as an evening sacrifice; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Church Workers.

The Lord said, Go, and I will be with thy mouth,
and teach thee what thou shalt say.-Exod. 4. 12.
I will go in the strength of the Lord God.-
Ps. 71. 16.

LORD, speak to me, that I may speak
In living echoes of Thy tone;
As Thou hast sought, so let me seek
Thy erring children lost and lone.
O lead me, Lord, that I may lead
The wandering and the wavering feet;
O feed me, Lord, that I may feed
Thy hungering ones with manna sweet.
O strengthen me, that while I stand
Firm on the rock, and strong in Thee,
I may stretch out a loving hand
To wrestlers with the troubled sea.

O teach me, Lord, that I may teach
The precious things Thou dost impart;
And wing my words, that they may reach
The hidden depths of many a heart.

O give Thine own sweet rest to me,
That I may speak with soothing power
A word in season, as from Thee,
To weary ones in needful hour.

O fill me with Thy fulness, Lord,
Until my very heart o'erflow

In kindling thought and glowing word,
Thy love to tell, Thy praise to show.

O use me, Lord, use even me,

Just as Thou wilt, and when, and where,
Until Thy Blessed Face I see,

Thy rest, Thy joy, Thy glory share.

F. R. Havergal.

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified; receive our supplications and prayers, which we offer before Thee for all estates of men in Thy Holy Church, that every member of the same, in his vocation and ministry, may truly and godly serve Thee; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.

O Merciful Father, our Help in trouble, to Whom alone belong the issues of life and death; look down from heaven, we beseech Thee, upon Thy servant now lying upon a bed of sickness. Visit him with Thy salvation; relieve his pain. Make Thou all his bed in his sickness, and grant him Thy peace. If it be Thy pleasure, prolong his days upon earth, that he may live to praise Thee and serve Thee faithfully; through Jesus Christ our Lord

Amen.
