YE nations round the earth, rejoice Before the Lord, your sovereign king: Serve him with cheerful heart and voice, With all your tongues his glory sing. 2. The Lord is God: 'tis he alone 3. Enter his gates with songs of joy, 4. The Lord is good, the Lord is kind, 48. L. M. WATTS. Praise from all mankind. 1. BEFORE Jehovah's awful throne, 2. His sovereign power, without our aid, Made us of clay, and form'd us men ; And when like wandering sheep we stray'd, He brought us to his fold again. 3. We are his people, we his care, 4. We'll crowd thy gates with thankful songs, High as the heavens our voices raise; And earth with her ten thousand tongues Shall fill thy courts with sounding praise. 5. Wide as the world is thy command, Firm as a rock thy truth must stand, 49. P. M. MRS. BARBAULD. Praise to the One Creator. 1. JEHOVAH reigns! let every nation hear, And at his footstool bow with holy fear: Jehovah reigns unbounded and alone, And all creation hangs beneath his throne: He reigns alone; let no inferior nature Usurp, or share, the throne of the Creator. 2. This goodly world, the creature of a day, Though built by God's right hand, must pass away, And long oblivion creep o'er mortal things, The fate of empires, and the pride of kings: Eternal night shall veil their proudest story, And drop the curtain o'er all human glory. But fixt, O God, for ever stands thy throne! Jehovah reigns, a universe alone! Th' eternal fire that feeds each vital flame, Collected or diffused is still the same: He dwells within his own unfathom'd essence, And fills all space with his unbounded presence. 4. But oh! our highest notes the theme debase, And silence is our least injurious praise. Cease, cease your songs, the daring flight control, Revere him in the stillness of the soul: With silent duty meekly bend before him, And deep within your inmost hearts adore him. 50. P. M. WATTS. Praise to the true God. 1. LET all the earth their voices raise, 2. The heathens know thy glory, Lord; 3. He framed the globe, he built the sky, 4. Come the great day, the glorious hour, When earth shall feel his saving power, And barbarous nations fear his name! с Then shall the race of men confess And in his courts his grace proclaim. AWAKE, ye saints, to praise your King, 2. Great is the Lord; and works unknown Our souls shall bow before his throne 3. Heaven, earth, and sea confess his hand; 4. O Britain, know the living God, 52. P. M. MERRICK. Praise to God, the sovereign king. 1. LIFT your voice, and joyful sing |
