act may be accepted.

Section 3. For the erecting of said wires above ground and for laying same or pipes thereof under ground, or for taking up, replacing and repairing the same, said company shall first obtain the consent of the municipal officers of said town and perform all said acts as directed by said municipal officers.

Section 4. Damages for any land or easement taken for the purposes of erecting or laying said lines, if the parties cannot agree, shall be estimated, secured and paid as in the case of lands taken for railroads.

Section 5. Nothing contained in this act will be construed to affect or diminish the liability of said corporation for any injury to private property, by depreciating the value thereof or otherwise, but any legal remedies existing shall continue.

Section 6. The municipal officers of the town of Stonington shall at all times have the power to regulate and control the acts and doings of said corporation, which may in any manner affect the health and safety of the public or become a nuisance to the said town.

Section 7. The capital stock of said company shall not exceed one hundred thousand dollars, and shall be divided into shares of twenty-five dollars each.

Section 8. Said company is hereby authorized to issue bonds for the construction of its works and other purposes of its incorporation, upon such rates and for such amounts as may be deemed necessary, not to exceed one hundred thousand dollars in all, and to secure the same by mortgage or deed of trust upon its franchises and property.

Section 9. Any two of the corporators named in this act may call the first meeting of the corporation by mailing a written notice signed by both, postage paid, to each of the corporators, seven days at least before the day of the meeting, naming the time and place and purpose of said meeting; a president, secretary and directors, and other necessary officers may be chosen, by-laws adopted and any corporate business transacted. Section 10. This act may be accepted at any regular meeting of the corporation by a majority of the members present. Section II. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 271.

An Act to regulate fishing in Washburn Pond and tributaries.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

Section I. It shall be unlawful to fish for, take, catch or kill any kind of fish at any time in Washburn pond, so called, in Washsituated in Garland village in the county of Penobscot, or in any of its tributaries, for a period of three years from May first, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and seven. Section 2. Whoever violates any of the provisions of this act shall be subject to the same penalty as is provided in the general law of the state for illegal fishing.

Chapter 272.

An Act to extend the charter of the City Trust Company of Bangor,
Maine, and to change the name of said company.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in
Legislature assembled, as follows:

I.

Section 1. The name of the City Trust Company is hereby Name changed to Bangor Trust Company.

Section 2. The rights, powers and privileges of the City Trust Company of Bangor, Maine, which were granted by chapter one hundred ninety of the private and special laws of nineteen hundred and three, and extended by chapter one hundred fifty-five of the private and special laws of nineteen hundred and five, are hereby extended for the future period of two years from the approval of this act, under the name of Bangor Trust Company; and the persons named in said act, their associates and successors, shall have all the rights, powers and privileges that were granted them by said act, to be exercised in the same manner and for the same purposes as specified in said act.

Section 3. This act shall take effect when approved.

CHAP. 273

Part of town of Steuben annexed to town of Milbridge.

Chapter 273.

An Act to set off a part of the Town of Steuben in the County of Washington and annex it to the Town of Milbridge in said county.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

Section I. All the land known as the Fred J. Leighton road being a strip of land three rods wide and one hundred and fifteen rods long used as a road by Fred J. Leighton, said road leading from said Leighton's residence to the Milbridge town road known as the marsh road shall be and is hereby set off from the town of Steuben and annexed to the town of Milbridge in Washington county.

Section 2. This act shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 274.

An Act granting Charles H. Scott the right to maintain a ferry across
Eggemoggin Reach in Hancock County.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in
Legislature assembled, as follows:

Section 1. Charles H. Scott of Deer Isle, Hancock county, his associates and assigns, are hereby authorized to establish and maintain a ferry for the space of ten years, across Eggemoggin Reach, between the towns of Deer Isle and Sedgwick, in said Hancock county, from the terminus of the road now existing on the Deer Isle shore, near the steamboat wharf of the Maine Central Railroad, and the terminus of the road as now existing on the Sedgwick shore, near the wharf of the Eastern main- Steamship Company at Sargentville, with the right to keep and maintain suitable boats to be propelled by wire and trucks, oars, sails, steam, or some other power, for the safe conveyance and transportation of passengers, teams, animals, carriages and freight.

Section 2. The rate of toll at said ferry shall be established from time to time by the county commissioners of said county of Hancock.

Any person who keeps a ferry contrary to the provisions of this act, or who transports passengers, teams or freight between said towns of Deer Isle and Sedgwick, across said Eggemoggin Reach, within a statute mile above or below the ferry established by this act, for hire, or who furnishes for hire a boat or other craft for such purpose, forfeits four dollars

Chapter 275.

An Act to regulate fishing in Allen Brook, so called, and its tributaries, in the town of Exeter, County of Penobscot.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

Section I. It shall be unlawful to fish for, take, catch or kill

any kind of fish at any time in Allen brook, so called, or in any Allen brook. of its tributaries, in the town of Exeter, county of Penobscot, for a period of four years from May first, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and seven.

Section 2. Whoever violates any of the provisions of this act shall be subject to the same penalty as is provided in the general law of the state for illegal fishing.

Section 3. Provided, further, that this act shall not take effect until the commissioners of inland fisheries and game, without expense to the state, shall have caused notices to be posted in conspicuous places at or near said pond, setting forth in substance the provisions of this act.

Chapter 276.

An Act for the better protection of shell fish within the town of Yarmouth in the County of Cumberland.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

Section 1. No shell fish shall be taken from any flats within the limits of the town of Yarmouth, in Cumberland county, except by written permit of the municipal officers of the said towns of Yarmouth and North Yarmouth, and payment to the said towns for the privilege at such price as said towns may establish at any town meeting, any existing laws to the contrary notwithstanding; provided, that without such permit, any inhabitant within said towns, or any person temporarily resident therein, or the riparian owner of such flats, may take therefrom for the immediate use of himself or his family, not exceeding one bushel at one tide. Nor shall the inhabitants of said towns of Yarmouth or North Yarmouth enjoy any privileges on the flats of the town of Cumberland.

Section 2. Any person taking shell fish contrary to the provisions of this act, shall be punished for each offense by a fine. not exceeding ten dollars, or by imprisonment not exceeding thirty days or by both.

Section 3. This act shall take effect when approved.

An Act to confer additional powers and privileges upon the People's
Ferry Company.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in
Legislature assembled, as follows:

Section 1. The People's Ferry Company, a corporation created under chapter four hundred and ninety-five of the private and special laws of the year eighteen hundred and eighty-five, in addition to the rights, powers and privileges conferred upon said company by said chapter four hundred and ninety-five and acts additional thereto and amendatory thereof, shall hereafter have, exercise and enjoy the following additional rights, powers and privileges, to wit:
